As per the mapping portion at the beginning, Hummingbird has an app you can use on your phone where you can buy maps for specific lakes and the contours are quite detailed. I use it and I highly recommend it!

Excellent advice. Do your homework and then go with a guide. Growing up my dad would hire us a guide when fishing new locations or species. We were lucky to learn from many great guides. As a guide now myself, my goal is to help teach people so they can go do it on their own.
