What is the different between "English" and "Spin"?

English refers to hitting the cue to impart spin (or not), and where you hit the cue ball, though you can always use the word spin to mean the same thing. That said, there are plenty of reasons a ball would spin that isn't "english", for instance, how an object ball spins due to the throw or the spin of the white ball. Also, the rail will impart spin the balls when hit at an angle.
