Jayson Tatum Is Falling Into The Devin Booker Trap

Jayson Tatum has just made it to the NBA Finals for the first time in his career, paying homage to Kobe Bryant. But how he got there was eerily similar to Devin Booker. Unfortunately for Tatum, that could mean walking into the trap that Booker walked into last season. And that would mean the Boston Celtics would ultimately suffer the same fate as the Phoenix Suns, losing the series in heartbreaking fashion. In this video, we go through all of the times both Tatum & Booker were compared to the late, great Kobe Bryant.

Something I found interesting, Klay once said that when he struggles, he watches his 37 point quarter and his highlight reel. He doesn’t watch Kobe or MJ, he watches himself. If you think about it, it makes more sense. What can you learn about yourself watching Kobe highlights? Tatum and Book aren’t high school players who need to be inspired by their hero, they are pros who should probably do what Klay does. I think that is important to avoid falling into this trap.

Yes. Even though Kobe had a similar adoration for MJ, He wanted to learn his moves to carve his own path and surpass MJ. I don't think it's the same for Tatum and Booker. Not yet I hope. Players should prioritize in improving their game by watching their game.

Tatum honestly plays more like T-Mac. While he does utilize the occasional back to the basket attack, he is much more likely to throw in a side step, step back, or just a straight elevate & release shot over the defender because he has a much higher release point.. like.. Tracy Mcgrady Kobe was smaller, quicker, had more bounce, rarely in iso'd from the perimeter with an active dribble, Kobe had WAY more dog in him, & had more intensity on every play on defense.

No way. He 24. First finals with his best teammate a year older than him lol. It’s not like he had shaq. Or cp3. He’ll be going to multiple finals. Multiple mvps. Multiple all nba. His game 6 vs Giannis proves it. He played the most minutes that added up to like 15 more games than curry. Kid was nervous and tired. He’ll be ok.

I agree Tatum is still young & is one of the best players under 25. But you know the slander will come his way. It's just how things go sadly.

36:18 As a big fan of the Mamba it’s hard to hear these things because I question what these “analysts” are watching. A player shoots a couple of mid range shots, “HES THE NEXT KOBE”, like common now, relax.

Just found this video. It is good however there are a lot of times you get off topic and the screaming wasn't it. I feel like if you were to stay on topic and focus on tatum and booker instead of going to lonzo and luka it would have been better. Howvever still verg good video👍

Luka in game 7 is kinda like Steph’s game 7 against okc in 2016 like reporters asked Durant and Russ about Steph’s defense Russ laughed and KD kinda of talk down about Steph’s defense. Then Steph went crazy in that game7. Now when the reporter asked Chris and Booker about Luka defense they both laughed and then Luka says ‘everybody acting tough when they up’ and then in game 7 Luka also went crazy and destroyed them.

Tbh Jayson Tatum and Devin Booker should not be compared for one reason. That reason is they play two different positions. Also yeah dbook had a bad game but so did Jayson Tatum in the frickin finals. They Both are elite but they shouldn't be compared. Just my opinion.

Also during the Kobe/Shaq era. Most of the series in WCF / Finals, Shaq was the better either by a far margin or a small margin. Only 1 series (against the spurs) did Kobe outperform Shaq.

Kobe preached being himself above all else. Its only when he embraced *himself* that he got those two chips that cemented his legacy. MJ came back and played for his dad, but returned to doing it for himself and brought him to cementing his legacy with the second 3-peat. Youve gotta be YOU friends. Thats what all the best will tell you. Be YOU.

Diff between Kobe and Devin is that if Kobe sees a fault in his game ie he has trouble getting doubled teamed, his handles arent tight enough, his fade away isn't giving him the space he needs, he'd work on it everyday for hrs on end. Devin just cries and refuses to practice because he gets double teamed in pick up games. For a guy that admires Kobe's Mamba mentality, he's pretty soft.

People have always done it in the past, the next M.J., the next Kobe! Lets just face it, they used to compare M.J. to legendary 76er great --> (Dr. J.), then Kobe was supposed to be the next Jordan, why can't people just be themselves as Kobe & Jordan eventually learned it pays best when you do your own thing(Be it Air Jordan or Black Mamba style)!!!
