Your first time in the Ocean House Hotel is always something special - but I think the thing that makes Bloodlines stand out as such an iconic cult-classic is how it merges a bunch of different genres (horror, action, drama, comedy) without any one of them really feeling out of place or overshadowing the rest of the game. Also, one great thing about the game is how many alternative solutions there are to each quest - for example, if you play your cards right, you can persuade Jeanette and Therese to coexist and gain bonus experience.

Everybody talks about the Hotel mission, but there were many more that were just as memorable. The snuff film mystery that ends up in the Tzimisce's domain, the cultists' lair, the sewer mission with the plague bearer, the twin sisters and their crazy antics. I don't care if the sequel nails it from a graphical/technical perspective--I want most of their efforts put towards creativity in the scenarios.

its a shame, for the upcoming sequel (possibly) they hired the original team of this game, then fired them, mainly the creative writer. its passed through at least 3 different devs now so idk whether to look forward to it now or not. in my opinion the reason this game is worth playing is the writing/dialogue. i highly recommend malkavian next time you play this, they are the star of the show for sure : D and the clan quest mod! its built on an older unofficial patch version and many fans consider it canon. it adds a 5th area to the game which was planned but never implemented due to time constraints. wow what a ramble

You spoke of Werewolves a few times... Those weren't werewolves, they were vampires (weird vampires, but still vampires). Werewolves in the World of Darkness are truly terrifying murder machines fuelled by (and full of) rage, and vampires tend to avoid them as much as they could so they keep their dead entrails inside their dead bodies. If you keep playing this game, you might get a glimpse of an actual werewolf. But this game is indeed pretty great, a lot of replayability, and the different clans do allow you to approach the plot a bit differently.

You can flirt, persuade, intimidate and bend peoples minds through domination or dementation to get what you want. Great game.

Since you’re a Toreador they have the power of persuasion which is how you were able to get past the junkies. I tend to play as Ventrue, and Malkavians they were always the most fun, but Nosferatu was always an extra challenge, having to use the sewer systems to walk around. The Haunted hotel portion was always my favorite, it was genuinely unsettling when I played as a teen, had a ‘Shining’ feel with the Overlook type Hotel, especially with the way the Jack Torrance like spirit tried to kill you the whole way through. I also loved the soundtrack to the game, using real bands, especially since I listened to 90% of them even before the game.

If you fill out the character sheet yourself, spend you points, then go back one, then pick the same clan again, and you get to spend your skill points again.. you can repeat until you max out your sheet. You have to pick the same clan each time or your sheet resets.

That's kind of an unnecessary exploit, since the game is never so difficult that you can't beat it by playing normally - and if you pay attention to how you complete quests, you can get a bunch of bonus XP which allows you to become incredibly powerful by the end - the only reason to max out all your stats from the start would be if you wanted to play in God-Mode... which kinda ruins the challenge, but some people may find it fun. I wouldn't recommend it, until you've completed the game normally at least once, however, just so you can experience the game as intended first, before trying to game the system.

Oh yeah definitely got to do one playthrough as Malkavian, first playthrough generally best not to go Malkavian. The Malkavian dialogue is crazy and i like how the dialogue changes slightly when people address you depending which clan you picked.

My recommendation is to play the entire game as any clan other than Malkavian or Nosferatu - then on your second playthrough, pick Malkavian for that special lunatic experience, and then go Nosferatu for the added challenge of staying out of sight.

I'm both hopeful and worried about the upcoming Bloodlines 2 - it could be something truly amazing, but it could also be a complete wash... there's no way to know until it comes out. The long development time and development confusion could indicate that they are floundering and don't know what they're doing - or it could mean that they are dedicated to the final project, and are willing to spend the time and effort to get it right, instead of rushing it or sticking to flawed ideas.

Honestly, If you like RPGs and you’re playing on PC you definitely need to give this game a try. One thing I would say is install at least the basic version of the unofficial patch as the base game is incredibly buggy but that patch irons pretty much all of the issues out.

This game was a classic really for two reasons: (1) rich lore from the tabletop game, (2) very memorable and well-executed scenarios. There are so many missions in this game that will stay with you forever. So much so, that we can readily forgive its many, many technical and gameplay issues. I'd definitely play it modded even the first time through.

Helpful tip: you can totally feed while fighting. Anyone who you're fighting with or is a criminal is fair game, just hit F when you're close enough and you'll feed on them, though others around can attack and interrupt but you can get a couple blood points to keep you going first at least

Correct choice, Toreador is the best option of the default choices in this game. With mods you can be a Ravnos, the absolute best clan in the setting(until they destroyed their whole concept in the newer edition of the tabletop).

you need the unofficial patch is all. gog comes with version 9.2 preinstalled but the current version is 11.3 i think. consider it canon, the game released buggy and unfinished and troika games went out of business after this game. the authors of the unofficial patch have even talked with some of troika to best be able to finish things

It amazes me that the World of Darkness hasn't been snatched up by Triple A gaming. Secret World captured the vibe, before Funcom ran it into the ground, but the setting is so flexible. Most of the games we do get are digital novel style, bad action games (Werewolf), or a weird BR style game. The IP is built for RPGs. Shame the MMORPG never came to be. Can you imagine a Skyrim style game set in this universe where you could pull from all the White Wolf lore (Mage, Vampire, Werewolf, Hunter, Changeling, Wraith, Mummy, and more). Man it would be amazing if they did it right.

The story will never let you go again, the colours are vibrant, the characters OMG and the atmosphere is... well let's say no game came even close to this one, ever.

Ocean House Hotel one of the best quests in all of gaming. Period. My first time I noclipped through it lol, 2nd time I showed some courage :P Man I love this game. Easily in my favorites.

Get one of the unofficial patches there were a couple different ones by different people that fixed a lot of the bugs and improved gameplay, I just can't remember the name.
