This white girl was obsessed with this song when it came out. So this is basically the heartbeat of 1994. The song was everywhere. Warren G is actually the step brother of Dr. Dre, and him and Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg went to high school together. They had a group called "213." So Warren G is the continuation of the G-Funk that Dre started. It's a west coast thang!!! And the song is from from the movie, Above the Rim, Starring Tupac. It's all connected.

I don't think I've seen anyone here already mention it, but that opening skit, the whole "You can’t be any geek off the street. You gotta be handy with the steel, if you know what I mean. Earn your keep" part isn't just an intro or opening verse for the song, it's actually a sample pulled from the movie Young Guns. It's an 80s western about Billy the Kid with Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, and Kiefer Sutherland. They work for a rancher to "regulate" his property/cattle, it's actually a pretty good movie! 🙂

I'm REALLY impressed that you knew Michael McDonald even before the song came on. There IS a version on this song with MM's sample on it which I remember hearing many years ago. Peace and blessings from London (UK).
