"Juice" Newton is an American pop & country singer, songwriter & musician. Merrilee Rush had a hit in 1968 with the song "Angel Of The Morning". Juice Newton recorded it in 1981. She had a lot of great hits in the 80's such as "Queen Of Hearts", "The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)", "Ride 'Em Cowboy", "Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me", "Break It To Me Gently", "Heart Of The Night", "Stranger At My Door", A Little Love", "Restless Heart", "You Make Me Want To Make You Mine", "Hurt," "Both To Each Other (Friends & Lovers)" (with Eddie Rabbitt) etc.

I used to sing karaoke... a LOT. I'm not very good and I fully admit that, but I didn't let that stop me from having fun or taking chances on new songs. One night, a regular customer at the bar I managed and sang at asked me to sing Angel of the Morning. I have always loved the song but never sang it publicly, so I was nervous to try it. I'm so grateful to the KJ for pointing up before the part where she belts out the "ba-ay-ay-bee" because that gave me a chance to ready my voice and really go for it. I shocked myself and the whole bar when I nailed it. They had never before cheered for me like they did that night. For a moment, I knew what it felt like to be a real rockstar. When I finished the song, the girl who requested it came up to me, tears in her eyes, and thanked me over and over for singing it. I guess it had some special meaning to her. It was an amazing feeling that I did it justice for her. I still get a little teary-eyed when thinking about that night... nearly 20 years ago. Thank you for commenting on this song. I absolutely loved it!

This is a 1981 remake of a late 60's song. Juice Newton made it her own! Hers is a lot better than the original. Other songs that are MANDATORY: The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known), Break It To Me Gently, Queen Of Hearts, Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me. There are two versions of "The Sweetest Thing." Make sure you listen to the one with the OBOE. It's the version that was a hit, and it's WORLDS ahead of the other version. Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3_dXnqbeJWae5o

@@dundundata7603 Yeah the original version is pretty good, although it was apparently recorded already twice a year prior Merrilee Rush's version - by Evie Sands and Billie Davis after being rejected by Connie Francis... and perhaps even a demo exists by the original author Chip Taylor himself that would predate these recordings - I've listened only to his versions that are recorded dated after Rush's take on it.

Great song, right? This is probably Juice's best-known song, but my favorite of hers, and actually one of my very favorites of the 80s, is "Queen of Hearts", just an upbeat, flirtacious but wistful ditty of a pop song, so catchy. I think most people consider her country (you can hear the twang in her voice), but whatever. I call it pop. Anyway, I'd love to see a reaction to it!

As a toddler, I often played this song in the car for my daughter. She really loved it, especially the chorus! She was slow picking up the lyrics. But when the chorus came OMG, she definitely had the "Baaabee" part down pat. She'd sing that part the loudest! Ha ha. Everytime we'd get in the car. She'd say "play the Angel song mommy. Followed by please please?" How could I say no? LOL. We'd also play The Bay City Rollers song Saturday Night! At @ 1-2 years old. We hit the rewind often. The U&R letters got slurred over while learning to spell! Ha ha. We had loads of fun while she was learning! I really love those great pop oldies for many happy vibin sing alongs! I believe you misunderstood the lyrics. She wasn't calling "him" an angel, her words were, "just call "me" angel of the morning". No names, just a one night stand with a stranger. Something they both wanted in the heat of the night. She was saying about not being afraid of the early morning dawn, by being by herself, just touch her cheek before leaving. Not begging him to stay by trying to make more out of it than what it was. This was the way things were back then, hippie generation, free love, make love not war ( big motto then), groupies, swingers, orgy's, etc. A lot of one night stands where people didn't care to know about the other person, just being satisfied at the time.
