en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_box Attached is a link about the Talk Box used by Roger Troutman and Zapp. In the history it states it was created back in the 1930's. Roger Troutman made it popular in the 1980's and present day it's called Auto Tune. I thought you might like to see the article. Enjoy your evening 🙂.

It is a vocalizer that Roger Troutman adjusted for use with voice & synthesizer. It is called a "voice box" it was used a lot in the 70s by Joe Walsh,Peter Frampton etc,but they used it hooked up to a guitar, to make the vibration of the guitar sound like it was talking. It works by singing through a rubber tube connected to the synthesizer. Zapp was way ahead of their time. Most of Zapp & Rogers songs used the talk box. Another group from the same genre is Midnight Star.

This is my personal theme song, not because I chose it, it was assigned to me by my friends. Of all of my friends I'm the most knowledgeable about computers, so whenever they have computer issues they'd call me to help them out, and often whatever issue they were having wouldn't happen for me, so my best friend said, "you have Computer Love, you just know all of the right places to touch it, how to romance it and make it happy so it doesn't mess up for you." Because of that he said my personal theme song is Computer Love. :D

Roger Troutman was ahead of his time with using the "talk box" to make his voice sound like that, similar to what we know today as autotune. Charlie Wilson from the Gap Band and Shirley Murdock also sang vocals on this song, along with Roger. Roger also sang the hook on Dr. Dre and Tupac's "California". He was sadly murdered way too young by his own brother.

The electronic band Kraftwerk, who also had robotic themes in their music and visuals, also made a song called "Computer Love." Have you ever checked out Kraftwerk? OH!!!! You FINALLY did Zapp and Roger.......This was the MAJOR hit back in the day. Zapp was the first to invent the "vocal" synchronized the keyboard done with a plastic tube that Zapp sang into. These brothers were so instrumental in the change of the time of what was happening with music. Snoop Dog used Zapp and the same vocalization in his hit CALIFORNIA LOVE!!! The sad part to this story of these genius brothers was that it ended in tragedy with one brother killing the other.....This was pure genius in music......MUSIK MAGIK!!!!

The way the song was made is a story in itself. Charlie and Roger were friends, and they were signed to different labels. But they had this idea to work on a song together, and this song came out of it. They wanted to do a music video, but because they were signed to different labels, they couldn't get it done. This song isn't just about love, it's about friendship, and keeping that friendship no matter what life throws at you.

Great band, Snoop Dogg and Tupac, and many others have sampled from them. Tragically, the brothers Roger and Larry Troutman died in a murder-suicide. They were great talents in the early 80s.

Yes. I knew Larry but never met Roger. My Nana babysitted Larry's children. So I did in fact meet Larry Troutman but never Roger.

red rum. it's murder spelled backwards. a reference to the movie The Shining. The instrument is called a Vocoder and is sung through a tube into the box. The beginning of the auto tune era.

Roger Troutman was a pioneer in using the voice box. More bounce to the Ounce, n their cover of Heard it Through the Grapevine r must listens. Also California Love with Dr Dre n Tupac.

One of many great funk groups out if Dayton, Ohio. Zapp had lots of no classic grooves, most faster pace. Back when there was wider genre of music and R&B thriving.
