If anyone cares, the musicians on this are: Steve Fidyk, drums, Jim Roberts on bass, and me, Tony Nalker on piano. We recorded this at Bias Studios in Springfield, VA for the Hal Leonard Jazz Playalong series 10+ years ago, produced by Mark Taylor (the series now has close to 200 books).

For serious players by (very) serious players. No machines, real jazz backing at last. Good to feel like in a jam during lockdown! Your channel & playing is a marvel (Mister Grant and MrSunnybass are also great) My guitar loves that. Thanks again from Paris.

I agree. The last chorus before returning to the head goes so hard. It always pushes me to go out of my comfort zone and try new and out ideas. love it!

that is so great to play over so many play along tracks are dumb down and don't sound like to have a real band behind them and I understand that people want to learn but once you're proficient it's great to have play alongs like this that actually sound like the actual syntaxical structures along with the semantics that constitute the language of jazz

Glad to find your video again ! I was wondering why the backing I have used for my cover of Footprint has suddently disappeard. You version is the best I've found (or at least it's the one that fits the best my tenor recorder sound).

do you know what those beautiful chords are in the middle of the song that run down thank you for any help
@nathleflutiste8 жыл бұрын
Well at the moment no, I would need you to precise the exact time when it happen, also since I'm not a keyboard player, I won't be able to tell exactly if it is a major, a minor, a 7 or anyhting else.

Love this version, though it sounds to me like they might just be using the Real Book changes (D7/Db7) and not the original...closer to what you posting, but have been seeing a lot of posts that say original is E7 Alt, instead of the Em7 b5?

@@BEARGUITARJAZZ This is not what they are playing though, the turnaround they are playing is 1 bar E-7, 1/2 bar Eb7 and than D-7 Db-7 quarter bar one measure.

Hi, what's are the modes to use for improv for this? I'm new to jazz.
@LUMMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
For the intro (till 0:24) C minor natural or C blues. On the first four measures of the theme, C minor natural or C blues, on the next two measures F minor natural or F blues, then back to C for two measures... and then it's complicated I'll let you find what sounds good because there is no mode I think hahahah!

@connorsobieri2455 жыл бұрын
danny connolly I’m fairly sure it is just the original key of the standard... If you have the first volume of the real book it’s in there, and if not you can probably find it online... I believe they are playing a concert C minor 7 as the first chord in the head if that is any help...
@3dge--runner4 жыл бұрын
Is the original key but there's a lot of force voicings and substitutions with minor major chords (melodic minor/harmonic minor) here and there. It is in the key of c though

Clearly some really nice playing here. The keyboard part is impressive, but it detracts from this as a backing track. It’s way over played for someone to solo over. Nice chops though
@3dge--runner4 жыл бұрын
I disagree with you on that I love the substitutionsthen voicings that this pianist plays it makes it like an actual performanceand feels like I can actually play off of them wear as a basic play along is Wade dumb down and never feels like I'm talking with the musicians
