Kinda disrespectful to title this video "Jazz Basist Esperanza..." while she's clearly saying she's not, and not want to name herself a jazz musican.

This woman is extremely impressive in both her music, her intellectuality and education. I understand how she doesn't want to be labeled by just one Genre. She can play anything that she choices to play.

It is beyond my comprehension how someone can be that intelligent, educated, talented and graceful as Esperanza. When I first saw her in a recording of a concert at White House (with Obama) where she performed the song "Tell him" by Lauryn Hill, I was litterally shocked by her talent and that ease while singing and bass playing at the same time, while smiling innocently.

Singing through the challenges of a venue to connect with your music... Wow, that is indeed a space to be explored, so often I've resigned from a rehearsal because the sound feels off... Really, it's my connection with my music or the performance that is off and that is where the work needs to be done... Thank you for that lesson.

Thank you. This is illuminating. A smart beautiful woman. No jazz musician at all, as we could hear from her music already, besides the good technical competence. She likes to play with words too; while she denies the jazz musician role and keep on speaking of big jazz personalities she dealt with though. I like her singing in Kris Davis' Diamond Ribbons best. Maybe she is at her best as a music teacher, who knows

I enjoyed hearing Ms. Esperanza Spalding and her D-evol-ution concert live a few years ago. On improvisation, it is a birthing, a storytelling, a release of a unique and intimate product what we've cognitively synthesized. On her discussion of music as therapy: as a brain injury patient, I turned to music to help me heal. I'm crying now remembering how important it was to me- music saw me through that horrifically painful time. Therapists, talk to your patients, listen to them, ask them what you need to know to be the best music therapist. Peace, Love, Music, Laughter are indeed essential parts of the healing process.
