One of my FAVs. Had no idea they've issued all those fantastic box sets. I own a few "standard" box sets of Miles, the 4 Prestige CD set"but nothing extravagant like you've showed with Mingus, MD, Coltrane, etc. I love great packaging and you're absolutely spot on - it's MUCH more difficult to produce than simply collating 2-10+ CDs & boxing them up in a pretty wrapper. Lots of homework, permissions, payouts, storytelling, etc., 👍👍

Have some of these boxsets. Didn't like that they were placed in those tight-fitting carboard sleeves, so I removed all the discs and stored them separately in slim jewel cases. Ditto the Charlie Christian box - was afraid the foam at the base would eventually stick to the CDs. Great collection by the way!

Mazzy, you really are The Man when it comes to jazz recommendations. Just bought the Coltrane Village Vanguard box, super exited to get it as it sounds incredible from what I’ve listened to on Spotify. The U.K. is cold today but I’m feeling warmer now 😊

It truly is amazing how great Charlie’s playing was despite his insane consumptive and destructive life. I have a record of Parker live from his apartment in NYC where you can hear the street below. One of my favorite items in my collection. Great Clifford Brown and Coltrane sets. Dig the Monk box as well. Charlie Rouse so strong with that group.

I obviously did not spend enough time perusing all of the jazz box sets. While I recognize the names the box sets are unfamiliar, for the most part. Yes, some quite elaborate packages. CD box sets, part 2 like a Charlie Sheen movie, Part Deux, and the Herbie Hancock plastic box reminded my of some movie, Cube or House or was it the remake of 13 Ghosts? Thanks, Chris

That would be part of the Mazzy prose voice if yr after a distinct authorial voice. And: 'Why do they cost so much?"' You named all the right reasons but one: greedy corporate bstardos - don;t forget to factor that into the equation else yr missing a big fat slice o' the pie.
