This is from their recently re- released on CD 'Album of the Year' originally put out on vinyl in the early 1980's if I recall. The best Messengers album ever in my opinion and that's quite a claim to make. The whole damn thing is as good as this and you won't be disappointed I assure you. Fantastic jazz !

I got lucky and found the CD "Album of the Year" at a vinyl/CD shop in St. Louis earlier this year!

@erinnanova Charles Fambrough on bass. Album of the year is for me the best of Art Blakey during the period with Marsalis. Never heard a better sound on a jazz album as on this recording. It was recorded in Paris. Incredible big sound and super music. Everybody at his best. I saw them several times in concert during that period...

@shanrico Glad you agree. I sense this one slipped under the radar a bit when it came out but of all the great Messengers line-ups over the years, this one with Wynton and Bobby etc., takes some beating doesn't it.

One decade later... but it is definitely a weird form. Its an AABCA, we had to figure out the changes for a gig. It starts on GbMaj7#11 for the A sections and the C section. For the B, its 4 bars of EMaj7#11 and 4 bars of Fmin7. I have the chart on iReal pro
