dont forget folks, even if you dont play vibes - you can still learn from these methods. great vids as always - jazz pianist/flamenco guitarist/vocal improviser

Love your melodic, tuneful playing. Not a lot of fast notes solely for the sake of showing off technique (that which you do happen to have). Great work. Thank you!

It looks very easy and logical. In fact things get worse when you approach you instrument! Good job Tim!

You are playing the Cmi7 with both right mallets near a node. Voice this chord with the left sticks playing Bb and Eb and the right ones playing D and G. Two perfect 4ths that can be struck dead center on the vibraphone maximising both the tone and the ease of playing.

Whoa that's really amazing. I have been learning improvasing on marimba a while now but noone is doing that so I might get a vibraphone instead, although I generally like marimba better.

Quick question, why are you using mallets 2 and 3 for runs and melodic lines? I was always taught to use 2 and 4 when using Burton.
@TimCollinsVibes5 жыл бұрын
That’s just how I play- depending on how loud it gets, sometimes I go to the 2/4 method also.

why didn't you use the vibrato ? the unique timbre of the vibes is the vibrato
@TimCollinsVibes5 жыл бұрын
When I recorded this video, I didn’t even have the resonators on the vibes. Hence, no vibrato. But normally I prefer vibrato.. I’m a Milt Jackson fan.

Thanks for the compliment! Regarding Chega- that is one that has been on my to-do list. It’s so difficult though, there isn’t really a simple way to navigate through it. I have some ideas for it though, so when I get a free minute I’ll try to put something together.
