Proud to know Ricky he was a beast with Chuck Brown and Experience Unlimited, I'm happy that a musical genius like Miles Davis saw his talent and invited him in, RIP to both legends❤

The GREAT SUGAR FOOT RICKY....Continue to Rest In Paradise Rick. Miss you man....
@josephbarron923026 күн бұрын
Ricky "Sugarfoot" Wellman R.I.P. 1955-2013. A GREAT drummer. With Miles Davis from March 1987 to August 1991. Before Miles Davis, Ricky Wellman was the drummer for Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers from the late 70's to the mid 80's. in Washington DC. Wellman was one of the co-founders of the "go-go" sound that started in DC. Miles heard a tape of Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers and was knocked out by the drumming. He phoned Wellman and invited him to join his band - there was no audition. For my money, Mr. Wellman's drum solo on "Carnival Time" with Miles Davis LIVE in Munich Germany 1988 is one of the greatest drum solo's of all time. A monster talent. Mr. Wellman, R.I.P., a job well done, thank you, JoeB.

Me quedo con Joung Andrés fine y A remark You made, Birland, Black Marquet y la trepidante Ice Poco Willy.

Wow, I dig how Ricky was doing this 70s throwback thing as a drummer in1988, channeling Carl Palmer & Neil Peart whilst playing Prince-ly music with Miles!

Mazur is a groovy percussionist...love that she had the classic Paiste perc set, w/the cup chimes, the rotosounds...all that Stewart Copeland shit, as some of us drummer-types would think. Billy Cobham actually had one of those Paiste fun-sets at the turn of the 80s, which can be seen in a reunion show here on YT that he did w/Herbie & Ron during that period, as well as the thing that he did w/Louie Bellson.

Mancini isn't that special... there are tons of drummer in metal and jazz that are on his level (or better), even behind a 4 piece. And the only reason he is the drummer for DT right now is because Minnemann didn't want to leave his other projects/bands.

Mancini with Miles lulz. Miles himself called Wellman up to join his band. I saw Miles with Wellman (without Mazur on percussion though, she is brilliant) and he was stellar. Can you imagine Mancini playing with Miles with Joey DeFrancesco on the Hammond, as Wellman has? You probably can't, because you have zero imagination.
