Did you know that Coraline was completely stop-motion and they had over 50 heads just for Coraline’s facial expressions? Yeah, these animations that people make completely by hand are so amazing and deserve so much appreciation. Sadly, you don’t see this kind of stuff anymore.
@calliemyersbuchanan6458
@calliemyersbuchanan6458 Жыл бұрын
What's funny is big budget movies like that are both easier and harder! It was easier because a computer calibrates which facial expression (and thus which head) is needed for each frame. This is especially handy when filming dialogue. But obviously harder because it's that much more complex of a system. I personally love the costumes for the armatures like all of Coralines sweaters were legit hand knitted!!!

I would argue that you can still see stop motion animations being produced, it just isn't easy to make it into mainstream media like say, Coraline or Nightmare Before Christmas.

Not many people know about the legend Ray Harryhausen he made a lot of iconic creatures, probably one of the best stop motion animators of all time. What made him so good was how he was able to create unique movements for different creatures to give them realistic textures like an octopus he really had to think about how tentacles move differently than human body and he did this with a bunch of mythical creatures he created that don't even exist in real life so it would be super hard to imagine their movement

You might want to combine stop-motion clay animation with blue/green-screen techniques. That way you can easily split filming the characters and background and don't risk of accidentally modifiying the background when moving the characters.

Jazza if you read this, this is important...For claymation you need to think about it like sprites with video games. You need to have basically a bunch of different clay figures just for 1 action. And same goes for facial expressions and basic vowels when talking... A, E, I, O, U that's at least 5 different mouth positions just for 5 vowel sounds. And not including the rest of the alphabet like S or T pronounciations. Here's the basics with animation Different mouth shapes for vowels & alphabet Different facial expressions for emotions Different sprites/clay figures for each action & gesture If you can do these basic 3 things then your claymation will be much easier the hardest part will just be making all the clay figures which takes a lot of time but for a typic claymation scene they can have over 100 different clay figures just for those basics. To simplify things you can eliminate any talking so it's purely visual story telling therefor you don't need the mouth shapes for words.

I followed your channel back in... oh god, a long time ago. back around a million subs or so, I think. I was mildly interesting back then, as it was really just a drawing channel, and I thought all the drawing challenges were really neat, but with the direction you've taken your channel since then? I'm absolutely blown away, consistently. The videos are so much more engaging, you seem much more genuinely engaged yourself, and between the content constantly feeling fresh and you seeming to genuinely enjoy it so much more, I've found myself going from occasionally skipping through your videos to see some cool art, to binging entire videos to see all the creative ways you tackle various artistic mediums and the ways you go about learning these mediums. Art is one of those things that, because it's so subjective, there's really no limit to how many different ways you can tackle it (a prime example being your crayon melting video recently). And none of that is to speak to the massively improved quality of your videos, which is of course to be expected as a channel grows and technology improves. Anyway, TL;DR - Your content is great, can't wait for more.

I've watched claymation shows so many times and I wonder how they multiple episodes done in a couple of weeks! It would take me a couple months to probably make a 1-2 minute video.

Stop motion sure is difficult, adding the world of clay to it makes it even more so though. Mad respect to everyone who does that for a job Also that’s a wild laptop

Yes i seen that too. Was really interested in what looked like an extra screen between the keyboard and main screen.

I did this the other day at college…. It was fun, but really made me appreciate the effort that goes into the movies that use it!
