Great lesson. My alto has the exact same tuning issues. I always wondered how Cannonball got that sparky low D in Work Song. I suspect he knew the c# trick too.

Great lesson! However, how do you know if being out of tune is your instrument's fault and not yours? Many times I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong with my embouchure and that's the reason I'm out of tune...

Thanks Ted. I have been using this method for a while, especially with chords - and particularly working on the octave leap between A's. It has helped a lot and reduced my tendency to play sharp when practising solo.

This is so true although I play the keyboards/piano, it helps me to tune up my other instruments.

I ain’t trying be different and disagree.. but those without sight and there other senses like hearing improve and tuning can potentially be done from a distance without touching an instrument or instruments..

You need to buy a new one that stays in tune... Maybe the piano's out...
