The solo at 25:06 is sublime. Such control of the altissimo. The interplay with Pablo Menares brings a smile to his face in the midst of it. Superb. Then at 26:55 Lage Lund adds a dash of spice that propels things. So much interplay. Wow.

Melissa is my favorite contemporary soloist. Every line composed. Eery line organic and flowing. All with logic.

Too good for my ears . Almost turned off after five minutes as it sounded meaningless-then it gradually all made sense and became gripping . Very clever reed control and understanding of technique to obtain an effect of space time and distance . Excellent Jonny UK

Just hearing this for the first time, and I am positively in love with her sound and this music. Especially love the fact she's playing her grandfather's Mark VI and is a third-generation sax player.

Wow. One of the best of this generation. I can see such similarities to Mark Turner. Really wasting not one note or measure. So thoughtful.

I was visiting Chicago just before the pandemic during the annual Jazz festival and there was this sax lady from Chile that played amanzingly and reminded me of her... I feel some hispanic accent from her - I wonder if it is the same person!!! I never took note of that female sax player and omg Melissa is soooo great ❤❤❤❤🇧🇷🇧🇷

I love a piano-less quartet. Nothing wrong with piano, but with guitar (like the Chico Hamiton quintets). The music is more harmonious, less percussive. The guitar is more melodious. Apart from that Melissa is fantastic here!

But she comes here an Is considered the best female saxaphonist? No candy duffer is a much better, janette harris wud even be considered better, the US is good for giving alcolades to someone other than a US misician there props..when they speak of best male saxaphonist they even leave out the late grover Washington jr ..Thjs judgment thing is subjective
@MelodicDreamers Жыл бұрын
@@jaketaz8741 Candy Dulfer is a smooth jazz/pop musician. Melissa plays Contemporary Jazz/Modern Post Bop. They are not even the same style of music. The only thing the same here is they are both female. The changes Melissa plays over are far more advanced. Who you like is preference, which makes music fun, but please understand they don't play the same style of music, that's just absurd.

13:35 is the start to one of the most whacked out solos I ever heard. Weird chord voicings etc. Like the guitarist is trying to push the envelope, but the envelope is empty and postage is due. 1000 & 1 chord books must be on his bookcase.
