Gap clicks are a super useful way to develop a strong sense of inner time. Also interpreting it as different figures. The "&" of 2 and the "&" of 4 is a great setting for developing the swing feel ( by simply displacing the 2&4 click by an 8th note). Great video Von! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your expertise and a deeper way to use the click! Putting it on the "ands" definitely helps to swing those syncopated upbeats! I hope viewers will read this and give it a try too. Keep swinging my friend 🤙

This video should be seen by every drummer. A very important lesson. Freddy Gruber taught something similar. He called it making the metronome swing.

Thanks here too! I agree, make the click swing. I tell you, it really kicks my butt sometimes. Before a gig, if I can, I play some grooves, fills and solos on the kit with a metronome set to count 4 or 2 and 4. It's like recalibrating my timing and helps me to keep from playing on top of the beat during the gig. How do you use it?

Great lesson thanks! I've been using 2 and 4 on the click for years but never quite nailed the 4 concept!!

Great Keith! I appreciate the comment here too. That count four is a real humdinger. Sooo great for strengthening our internal timing. Have fun with that!

Yes, very interesting!, but I really don’t get how I can use that,at the real playing?, please help me to understand that!🥁
@jazzdrumschool2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Konstantin for your comment! When you practice the different ways I suggested, your internal timing will become stronger. This will help you have more steady time (tempo) when you perform with other musicians. This kind of practice actually retrains your muscle memory and thinking to make your 'real playing' as you said, more solid. Hope that helps. Keep swinging 🤙

What kind of drumsticks should I use (for learning jazz comping)?

Ariel thanks so much for watching and for the question! Please see my recent video about the sticks I use: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6qyY3SJn75_e8k I generally use some kind of 7a drum stick for playing Jazz. Keep swinging my friend!

Are those the 20” and 18” low volume cymbals? Or 18” and 16”?
@jazzdrumschool Жыл бұрын
Thanks Davie for the question! They're the smaller 16", 14" and 13" hats. Not sure if they still sell those sizes but the bigger sizes I'm sure are great if not better. Here's a shameless affiliate link 😂: amzn.to/3D1Ui9X Thanks always for your support Davie 🤙

@@jazzdrumschool I picked up a used set of these. 14” hats, 16” and 18” crashes, and 20” ride. I sold the 16” because it didn’t feel like a ride. But the 20” is pretty beefy/heavy for a practice cymbal and a bit louder. I guess it doesn’t really matter. I’m a travel nurse with a travel drumset, so trying to keep things light.

Tack så mycket och jag är verkligen glad att du gillar mina videor. Detta är utan tvekan ett av de mest kraftfulla sätten vi kan använda en metronom för vår trumövning. Ge det ett försök och låt mig veta hur det går 🤙
