I am beggining to get exactly why Winton is so in awe of the trumpet as a pure jazz instrument. The trumpet is a simple light and portable instrument. Although it demands great competence, the bang for buck is so much more than say , the piano. The Trumpet is rightfully the top of the tree in any jazz orchestra and I love the way that it is steadily regaining the affection it enjoyed before the Piano greats stole some of the limelight. That affection is also gaining momentum in the classical world with many transpositions coming along.
