Thanks for pointing the way to a solid foundation (everyone would love to run before they can crawl--it's natural--but let's master that crawl first!) 🙃

I started listening to your podcast last week from the 1st episode. I'm hooked, you are excellent at demystifying things and I don't know how you do it but, your explanations just in audio are great and to the point. Keep it on..

Enclosures are very useful for bebop. I'm using enclosure to keep my dogs from bringing me toys when I'm practicing. Just kidding, great lesson!

Outstanding, Thanks. I am a pretty much ear trained accordion player. This, if I can master it, would certainly take me to another level. I tried a couple of times to download the practice materials with no joy. Are they no longer available or do I have to do more than just request it with my email address?

Great video !!! I have been looking for this for so long time !!!! Just a question: Here you are using triads as a reference, but how it would sound, and how it would be referencing Maj7 chords ( as well dominantth and m7) ?
@jazzpianoschool

This is super useful info. Would it help quite a bit for fluency and fingering to also practice Hanon excercises in all keys as part of a regular warmup? Thanks again, and i know im late to this video with my question
@jazzpianoschool
@jazzpianoschool 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video! I would not recommend Hanon for jazz piano practice - instead if you want to work on technique, I would suggest working on technique within a jazz context like a transcription or a bebop melody. The only exercise that I would ever suggest for technique would be major and minor scales.

No mention of timing. No click. Both would’ve helped. The chord tones should fall on strong beats

How do you know when to start the enclosure a tone above or a semitone above?
@iloverumi
@iloverumi 3 жыл бұрын
there is no universal rule for that, as far as i know. generally, use the scale tone above (whether it's a half step or whole step). but you can always use your ear- if you prefer one or the other, go with that.
@jazzpianoschool
@jazzpianoschool 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Zac: thanks for the question, I would echo @iloverumi’s answer here. If you use the scale tone above that may be a half step or while above depending on what the note is that you’re enclosing. For ex if you’re enclosing an E on a Cmaj7, a scale tone above would be F (a half step). But if you’re enclosing a G on a Cmaj7, a scale tone above would be an A (a whole step). Hope this helps!

How about enclosure on altered chords? Thank you
@jazzpianoschool
@jazzpianoschool 3 жыл бұрын
Hi @August jazz: thanks for the question. Altered enclosures would work in a similar way - just have to remember that the altered extensions now become your chord tones that you will be enclosing! We go into much more depth about this in our main course curriculum. Visit the website to sign up!
