"Introducing Jazzy - Watch her exclusive live performances for Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2024 here: • Jazzy - Vevo DSCVR Art...
“I need somethin’/that beat pumpin’/party jumpin.’” When Jazzy lets loose the lyrics from “NRG,” there’s a seriousness in the air. It almost sounds like she’s sharing a prayer. With a house groove driving her voice, there’s a belief that a night of dancing can be a religious experience - all the track’s elements amplify the cause of putting people in motion. “NRG” is part of the celebrated Irish singer’s ‘Constellations’ EP, a six-song project that also features Jazzy’s hottest track to date, “Giving Me.” That’s the one that kept climbing the UK charts until it reached the Top 10, solidifying a notion that a lot of Jazzy watchers have had for the last two years: this woman is going places. The liftoff began in 2020 when the Dublin native was singing with the Powerful Creative Minds crew, a rap collective of creatives who all grew up in the same council estate. As a child Jazzy had played violin and belted out Amy Winehouse tunes for school presentations, so being in front of an audience wasn’t foreign. By the fall of 2021 she had blossomed enough to throw down with Belters Only, an electro duo with plenty of hooks up their sleeve; “Make Me Feel Good” erupted, topping the Irish charts and cracking the UK Top 10. The beat was terrific, but it was the young singer’s gravitas on phrases like “make me good/make me nice” that confirmed the artist born Yasmin Byrne was on her way. At times sounding like the offspring of both Ya Kid K and Lisa Stansfield, Jazzy has moved forward again with this year’s solo work. Victoriously, the tracks on her ‘Constellations’ EP leap out - each of them could be a hit. That’s why her days of working at Tesco grocery stores are now behind her, and that’s why fun promo stunts like spinning “Feel It” from a hot air balloon have blossomed. She says she’s inspired by music itself, and digs it when “you hear a song you love and get so passionate about it, you wanna make a piece of your own.” Our Artists To Watch stage turned into a dance floor when she blew through “NRG” and “Giving Me”.
