Completely agree, but my client requested the pattern. Good thing it’s a reaction bite. I think my favorite pattern is a juvenile duckling, and the yellow one that Chris Lane was crushing them with on Major League Fishing this past season (Lake O The Ozarks)

I’d be happy to. It’s essentially the same process as a Whopper Plopper. Dip one side, brush the other, but I’m happy to do a step by step 🙂
@Galvoflysoz5 жыл бұрын
Hi there loving your videos but I may have an idea to speed your taping process up. do away with the tape and brush on plasti dip paint which is a rubberized paint that is easy to peel off when dry. could use it on the eyes as well . Hope it helps and was just an idea.

I know this is a late comment. But i noticed something that wasn't mentioned in the video or brought up in the comments. What do you use to separate the tail from the main portion of the lure. It looks like styrofoam or something. Im curious how you have gone about it, thank you for your willingness to teach others about custom painting lures, it's inspiring and jaw dropping.
@Jekyll4245 жыл бұрын
No styrofoam. Nothing except a bit of tape. And then brush the clear on being careful to keep it away from the moving parts 😉

The first tip is to purchase a good airbrush whether you decide to paint the rest of your life or just try it for a little while. The biggest complaint I hear is that people wish they bought a better airbrush. A cheaper one won’t work as well, and it will frustrate you

Do you do the Whopper Plopper Blanks as well or just the prefer to do the River to Sea ploppers?
@Jekyll4246 жыл бұрын
I won’t paint the blanks. They don’t swim the same. If the lure or blank can’t be well proven in the water, my airbrush doesn’t hit it 😉

Where do you get your whopper popper blanks from? I have scoured eBay and Amazon with no luck. So I've overlooked them or I can't find them. Can you help me please?
@Jekyll4246 жыл бұрын
They aren’t blanks. They are River2Sea. 60-70% of the work I do for clients consists of custom repainting brand name lures for tournament use. 😉
@chrisperry98426 жыл бұрын
I had already checked river2sea's website to see if they might sell blanks, but s.o.l. the whopper plopper became my absolute favorite topwater lure summer before last. I had painted one of mine and that got me to wondering about blanks, that's all. I do enjoy your videos though, it's easy to learn from someone as good as yourself. Hope you keep the videos coming. Have good day!!

Beautiful craftsmanship. But I don't understand why one would fish a craw pattern as a topwater bait. I fish all the time and have never seen a craw on the surface of the water unless it was dead. Perhaps these are not actually being used to fish with? I admit I know nothing about this airspraying craft.
@Jekyll4245 жыл бұрын
90% of the custom designs you see are client requested orders. If they ask for it, I paint it. I think with the Craw topwater stuff, it’s more reactive strikes than anything, although colors are key factors too

Even for the beginner? The concerns i have is that ive heard it can harden in the jar if not in use and exposed to air, and also ive heard it shouldnt be used indoors due to the chemicals?
@Jekyll4246 жыл бұрын
It is a solvent, yes. A ventilation system is needed, fan or air exchange of some sort, but storing it is not that hard. Pour from the can into a sealable glass jar. Place plastic wrap between the lid and the jar. That adds an airtight seal to keep the clearcoat from hardening. I use spaghetti and olive jars. They’re taller and thinner, and multi functional for longer lures.
@One_more_cast6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the advice! I'll have to test it out against the devcon to see which i prefer best. great lures by the way, I subbed your channel!

I am so confused. Everyone else says that all old baits need glass beading, sanding, etc. but you just paint over the factory clear????? I didn’t even see you rough the finish up with a green a crotch bright pad or anything!!!! How is that possible????
@Jekyll4244 жыл бұрын
Scrubbing works for a lot of people, I've always found that unless there are noticeable oils or the lure is old and chipped then it will take paint and clear immediately. But having said that, I can only speak for what works (and has been working for 5+ years) for me. Find your comfort zone. I recommend you get advice and tips from as many sources as you can and use what works for you! Keep experimenting and keep getting better 🙂
