Hi Everyone! I hope you enjoyed the video, please let me know what you think in the comments! I'd also like to give special thanks to KneecapsAnna! kzbin.info/door/9loiwAqYr4pLDrHZQ9BoGA kneecapsmusic.bandcamp.com/ I had managed to completely screw up my audio recording in various ways this time and Anna came to my rescue to help salvage it as much as possible. So if you'd like to see some nice musical travel vlogs and cute dog content go and give Anna a look on the links above! :)

This is why I like colorization : making past event alive for us and your explanation contributes a lot of that feeling. I wonder how you choose the colors (hair, eyes, and dress) ? And thanks for you tutorials, I love and use them.

The three important word in colorization are, "Research, Research, and Research!!! And the other one is references.
@JBColourisation3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much indeed! Usually I try and first research everything where I have a solid factual colour reference. So for example with my Abraham Lincoln picture I found lots of eyewitness reports that he basically just wore the same old black suit to everything for years and didn't really wear colours much at all. Although those reports from the time also mentioned that the one noticeable thing about his appearance was that he wore a bright gold pocket watch to show off his success as a lawyer. I was also aware that photography backgrounds from that time were apparently a light blue usually, so I could be fairly confident about a lot of the colours in that image, With this Bly picture research was far trickier as I found for example her eye colour being described as dark brown, grey, and green depending on who was describing her. Based on how dark the eyes looked I decided to go with the brown interpretation. For her dress I could see the floral patterns so It made sense for me to go with earth tones Obviously I can't be sure that the designer didn't make the dress blue and cover it with flowers unfortunately but I am fairly sure the colour scheme I went with could have been used at the time, so it may not be accurate to the real dress but it wouldn't have looked out of place at the time either.

Thank you! There were so many good quotes from her! Like when she first asked the paper to fund her travelling the world, they liked the idea but thought a man might sell more papers. So she apparently responded "'Very well, Start the man, and I'll start the same day for some other newspaper and beat him.'"

This colourisation is absolutely fantastic! I wonder if there was a way to colorize images in Photoshop via manual greyscale separation or bandwidth filtering. The latter may be especially impossible, but I wonder if there are any similar processes that can be used or thought of
@atomlightstone4 жыл бұрын
That sounds very interesting. It would be amazing if it is possible
@thevfxmancolorizationvfxex40514 жыл бұрын
@@atomlightstone Maybe it could. I think if I could make luminosity masks via the Gradient Map tool, then a process similar to what I'm imagining wouldn't be rule out completely
@JBColourisation3 жыл бұрын
This is a really interesting concept, thank you for raising it! I think any sadly version of this would be very reliant on future potential Artificial Intelligence as based purely on the pixels obviously a shadow on a light thing and a dark thing will have similar, if not identical at times, levels of luminescence and i suspect you'd need a computer to make those judgements if it were going to help speed up the process sadly.
@thevfxmancolorizationvfxex40513 жыл бұрын
@@JBColourisation the reason why this is near impossible to achieve is because a greyscale image only contains the brightness information and will only contain neutral tones. If there was an algorithm that could compress the greyscale value of an image and remove it's neutral tones, then perhaps this method would be possible

@@thevfxmancolorizationvfxex4051 I think it will certainly take a little while for such technology to become easily available, if it's possible, but I think time will improve all of this kind of work dramatically!

Although the historic nature of some these subjects for colorization are interesting, I would suggest an alternate sound channel that describes what controls you are using to make the corrections for those of us who would like to follow along since the speed of what you are doing is so quick. Thanks
@atomlightstone4 жыл бұрын
Cool! But why don't you use solid color fill layers? Their much easier to adjust imo
@JBColourisation3 жыл бұрын
I think this is an area where it's a little down to personal preference and how you like to adjust things? While i agree that solid color is a quicker method, I really like having sliders. Although to be fair some of it, possibly all of it, is down to how quickly you can work with a method without changing it out for another. Had I started with solid fill I suspect I'd be happily using that now as i was used to it but I am so into the zone with this particular process that i think switching it out would take me a while to adjust to. It's certainly something I'll consider for the future however as i like to try and improve my working methods whenever possible. :)
