Very cool Richard! Can’t wait to hear how you compare and contrast these to your Zus. I don’t have the room, but if I did, I’d have a complete vintage system and a complete modern system.

Nice video. I own a pair myself, so looking forward to hearing the longer term review. I drive mine with a 350w pro amp (MC2 Audio) and it gives me a nice full range sound. Even though they are rated fairly sensitive (90db) I think a bit of power gets everything moving.The previous owner used Bryston too, to good effect. I have the original brochure, it suggests up to 400 watts. I don't get as much soundstage as I would like as my system room is quite long and narrow. I have played with the positioning a good bit and have now found a good improvements. The room I demoed them in was large with big space away from both back and side walls. The soundstage here was the best I have ever heard, so they are very capable. Enjoy and as I say look forward to hearing your verdict.

I probably need more power than the 85 watts of my Marantz but they sound good.

Really nice, the old vintage speakers have a sound all their own, really great! And Morphine is terrific, took me a while to track down that album here in Ontario last year.

Hi Richard, I just came across your channel while doing a search for JBL250ti on KZbin. Did you buy these at Delta Breeze, by any chance? I live in the area too, and saw and heard a pair there a few years ago. I’ve never been able to get them out of my mind! Anyway, great channel you have here.

I bought them from The Audio Nerd. He got them from the son of the original owner. Then I had the woofers redone. Thanks

The surrounds went on my JBL woofers about 10 years ago. I purchased a repair kit online and repaired them myself. The repair was successful. Then about 4 weeks after the repair I bought a pair to Totem Acoustics Hawks and have never used the JBL's since.

The pro job was very inexpensive. In the old days I probably would have done it myself.

I own a pair of these sense 1985 that sold for 3000.00. Power handling beast for sure. One draw back is the midrange is not so good. Bass can be somewhat muddy. I have mine in storage as of now because I am in a small room. Went with a small set of speakers. The 250 ti towers have been with me along time. Sure have not tried selling them. Was using 400 watts into them rms. They like clean power.
@richardriley4415 Жыл бұрын
I had the bass drivers rebuilt and I thought the mid range was ok. I have them in a fairly big open room.
@markclark1605 Жыл бұрын
@@richardriley4415 They are a good speaker for sure. I went with sonus faber 3.0 towers and I like the midrange alot better. The jbls may do better with a tube power amp which will make them more warmer sounding.

Like I said on my video, I love your setup. And those speakers are looking good. It might be good also for my speakers to have some repair and if some golden ear would listen is there everything ok. mr. Finglish (Bäd English Recs)

Oh sure, now you did. I’m in love with that Morphine record. But where did you get that copy? Discogs only has European ones listed.
@richardriley44155 жыл бұрын
My store got it in a collection they picked up. I order from the EU all the time.

@@richardriley4415 I've done it too only early on, I didn't quite understand how it worked and paid more in shipping than I did for the record making the end price WAY more than I wanted to pay. But I got the record just fine.

they sounded great coming from my small pc speakers. i didnt hook up my cans. but i'm interested to see which ones will be your mains. the zu audio modern or the jbl vintage.
@richardriley44155 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing the Zu's but I will need more experimentation for sure.

You'll find putting speakers on thermalite blocks will be better than concrete blocks acoustically better I can hear some boxy noise. Could do with some more installation use natural wool fibre try an extra 15% extra mainly around the woofer and in front of the port. They don't sound too bad where did you get then from. Do they make a higher version to this model? I noticed some of the empty space on the circuit board for inductors.
@richardriley44155 жыл бұрын
That was just expedient. I do need to experiment more.

Those are beauties Rich ! Sound good on the video , what are your thoughts ?
@richardriley44155 жыл бұрын
They sound very good. I don't know if I have the energy to do a proper comparison or not. In my main system my phono-pre cost more than everything in the 2nd room combined. Moving equipment around is a lot of work. I may try just moving the speakers into the main room. I have done a lot of upgrades since you were here and my main system sounds terrific now.

Yippy! Some Dick Hyman (I still giggle at his name...)! I have 3 different "Knuckles O'Toole" (I still giggle at this name also...)records he did... love that guy and how he tickles the Ivories!

HI Richard . Ken from the great white north. I have a pair of speakers 45 years old 15' woofers 4 1/2' mid's and 2 1/2 tweeters two 2 1/2' tuned ports with adjustments for the tweeter and mids the brand is CARILLON. They max out at 110 wats per. I still have my 45 year old SONY recever STR 7045 that i used with them A1 shape. Should i fix the speakers and hook them to my SONY? I have an ONKYO 5.2 THAT I USE NOW. P.S I AM 65 YEARS YOUNG
@Onteo15 жыл бұрын
ken scott ken scott I say fix them. My 1978 ESS Heil AMT 1-B needed new foam surrounds about 10 years ago. Found the part and a KZbin video on how to do it. Cost about $20 for both. Nothing beats vintage speakers. I’m 63 years young.

Lovely towers - I got blasted by someone when I gave the cost of my speakers in today's dollars - I wish I could have told that guy what he could do with that comment... I still am considering one day building my own pair of speakers from a kit, just to see what I can do... I wonder if it is worth replacing the caps or not on that board... but I think if it ain't broke works here.

Time will tell. I should have more time this summer to experiment.

Well back in the day (80s) I had those bought directly from the Dutch JBL importeur for a nice price as they were demo's but as an audiophile exchange them for T+A OEC 2000
