Lovely video. In the 1980's I used a plastic 4 litre oil bottle, (cleaned out) 1/4 lb of sugar and a tsp of dried yeast and a pint of tank water. A plastic tube into the bottle (through the closed lid) and an air stone on the other end, which went into the tank (kept this bottle in the warm). This produced the co2, I fed the yeast mixture every 3 days or so with a tab spoon of sugar. It lasted for several months, at night i just lifted the airstone out of the water. I regulated the flow with a small 'G-clamp.

Hi Gary, that makes sense. As I researched on this product - I kept wondering what they are really selling. The diffuser seems faulty from all the reviews, so they are really selling a quality bottle and a C02 mixture, both are easy DIYs. I'm going to try out your method: using sturdy drinking bottle + yeast/sugar/water solution placed on a mug warmer + airline tube with an airstone at the end. Thank YOU!

Great review, I like that you really gave it a fair try too. To me that says that you're honestly interested in how it goes long term and it's something I respect when looking at reviews. That defuser was huge, it would look so overpowering in my little 36L tank. That said I did like watching the bubble go around it like liquid through a swirly straw lol. You and your partner are amazing for coping with the crying baby. I could not do that for hours lol.

Thank you I appreciate that. I try and give a fair and honest view. I'm not in it to just try it for a week then right it off or say it was the best just because it was gifted to me to try. Yeah it's a beast, fun to watch but not the impact I wanted in terms of the CO2. Haha yeah she's alot better since that part of the video was filmed. I have a son too so you get used to the crying after the first time 👍

What I understood only the excess CO2 comes from the top. The main CO2 gas diffuses from the bottom (sides)

Great review mate, I would give the tropica co2 systems a go. The growth system 60 is what I use currently and they also do another version called growth system nano. I would recommend tropica. If you want more information let me know 😃 btw congratulations on your new arrival 🍼

Thanks man I'll have a look at them. Definitely planning on going pressuried I think my aquarium needs it now. As I've mentioned on a couple of videos those budget systems are a great intro to dip your toes in and a good step towards pressuried. Thanks, along with my son they definitely keep us busy 😂

Great review James. I've seen and heard that the fluval CO2 system works much better. It's comes as a canister filled with compressed CO2 with a regulator and all the bits you need to control the flow. 👍

Thanks man. I'll have to have a look into the fluval systems and see if they are worth checking out 👍

@@MrBrightfryed they are a little more expensive than the JBL system, but I guess it much easier to set up, with its plug and play concept, instead of the mixing which is involved with the JBL. Look forward to the next videos matey 👍

Yeah I'm definitely going for a pressuried system next time. For my aquarium these kits arent pumping enough to help the plants out compete the algae. Thanks man. Lots in the pipeline and new podcast episode drops tomorrow 👍

Pleasant, watchable review,thank you. It's weird that even the JBL pressurised systems which are very good, still have that dreadful diffuser as standard equipment, I think most people immediately change that for a diffuser with a membrane.
@MrBrightfryed

Thank you very much. Appreciate the kind words. Yeah its strange I immediately after the review was complete changed to a similar diffuser. I get the theory behind them after watching some JBL views on those ones supplied but I just feel they are bulky, ugly and get dirty way to quickly for my liking.

Can you buy separate valves for this system to try control the amount of co2 going into the aquarium? I’ve got a little 3 gallon, so don’t want loads of co2 anyway but definitely need something!

Hi honey. So i have just set mine up yesterday and, as yet no sign of any bubbles!! However having watched your review I am concerned that large bubbles are a complete waste of time. Have you tried a different diffuser on the system and if so which one would you recommend - on a budget!! Tahnk you for the informative video - and thank you for making the mistake that i may well have done had i not watched this!!

Hey thanks for the kind words and yes whist the theory is with the bubbles they technically get smaller going up the diffuser I felt it didn't really make sense. If I'm honest just use an airstone instead which will give smaller bubbles. That's what I ended up doing in the end. I think the ones I got were £2 from Amazon ironically by JBL called: JBL Prosilent aeras micro s3. They work fine for this kit. 👍

Can you turn off at night safely? Or is it on 24 hours?

No you can't turn it off unfortunately, that's the downside to these systems.

Agreed I've been ready for pressuried for a whole now. I really am noticing more why I need it for my heavily planted tank as these systems just arent pumping enough co2 to out compete the algae. Hopefully that's on the cards next 🤞

Can u make another diffusor on this jbl system
@MrBrightfryed
@MrBrightfryed 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use a normal airstone which works well enough for this type of system. Having said that you would be better to use the Bio 80 ECO which is the exact same product without the diffuser and a cheaper bottle but does the same job. 👍

This is horrible! First of all this diffuser is so chunky! It’s 2021, let’s make it look as seamless as possible! This one looks like from 90s 😂 I use in my nano tank (50L) the Neo CO2 and it’s perfect, you need to change the water frequently but IT DOES THE JOB, diffuser is actually good, and plants are growing amazingly!
@MrBrightfryed
@MrBrightfryed 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get the theory on how this is "supposed" to work but as you said it does look very dated and not so flattering in a nice aquascaped aquarium. Thankfully like yourself I've replaced the diffuser now too 👍
