Maybe consider to also feed them during the night. Koi like eating at night and you will keep your water parameters more stable. My feeder can only do 6 times a day so with two hand feeds they will get some food every three hours. Started this schedule this spring and growth is impressive and water parameter are perfect stable even during the high temp feeds. Regards from The Netherlands.

Yeah good shout! I am noticing by the end of the day there is a bit of muck on the pond floor, but no feeding over night and its gone by morning, maybe a smaller feed every hour would be better??? If i did do that id be worried the smaller koi missing out.
@Sander693 жыл бұрын
@@koidiaries i think you don’t have to worry about the small koi. I have now also tosia in my pond and they are learning to get more eager to get their part, so you will teach them not to be shy. And for sure a small amount every hour of every few hours will also make your biological filter the happiest. It is worth to try. If you find some in eaten food, just reduce the amount a little. Good luck.

Is it quite light. I'm thinking when thr food runs out and you get gusts of wind would it topple over. I'd strap it to the post
@koidiaries3 жыл бұрын
I reckon it weight 5kg empty, id be very suprised if empty the wind would blow it off, but then again a string gust would for sure. It does come with fixing plates for the feet so you can secure it sown if needed. And obviously when its full of food its very heavy

Looking good. Are you getting pond guards on your 3 wall as I'm getting twitchy !??
@koidiaries3 жыл бұрын
Nope, no jump guards, if ive got fish jumping id deffo be investigating as soon as i saw it. I never had jump guards on previous pond and the water level was 30mm from the very top. If fish start going over the glass I have a plan but i dont really wanna do that unless i have to

you may also have to watch for snails and slugs getting in to the auto feeder as i had this problem and they will clog the feeder up with there slime
@koidiaries3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure, although ive not seen any slugs near the pond since ive removed all the planting from the rear. We'll see but ill deffo keep an eye on it!

One concern I have about theses type of feeders is when the air becomes dewy in fall and spring. Will it make the food all wet? Keep us posted
@koidiaries3 жыл бұрын
The unit is waterproof and theres a screw which pulls the food towards the flinger, so if any food did get damp im pretty sure it would only be a couple of pellets, but we'll see when the time come i suppose

Nice one Andy, maybe a sinking pellet in the feeder (or a mix) and floating by handto stop the splashing/carnage.
@koidiaries3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure, i did put some 3mm sinking in but its a tad too small and clogs the spinny flicker thing

As someone else said, if you can't change the current situation in the UK, where all events are concentrated in mid-summer, which has been in place for a long time, how about re-scheduling our high summer feeding period for your September, October and November? Of course, you'd have to pay for utilities. A complete feeding period of preferably a month and a half or more is indispensable.
