The 3.5mm is useful to connect with the Direct Box (DI) if you play an instrument/band.

I have a pair of these JBL Tour Pro 3's and I love them. They are the most comfortable bluetooth earbuds I've tried and I have a lot of them. I have used Bose, Samsung, Sony, Airpods, Lypertek, Beats, B&O and others. I really like the fit of the Tour Pro 3. The sound quality seemed mediocre at first. But then I played around with the settings and was blown away. LDAC is great. But some features don't work when that is turned on. Spatial audio is one of them. When I used the transmitter to connect these to my TV, turning on the Spatial Audio made them sound fantastic. Without it, there is somewhat of an echo from the TV. I also have a THX Onyx dongle DAC. That enhances the sound when I connect it to the smart case for the transmitter functionality. That transmitter is a game-changer. While the Bowers & Wilkens i8 may have an overall richer, more robust sound profile (as they should considering they are $100 more than the JBL), the JBL has more versatility. One example of this is the custom EQ and EQ pre-sets that are accessible on the Tour Pro 3 screen. B&W i8 has customizable EQ but no pre-sets. JBL offers a wider array of sound customization through their app compared to B&W, which may potentially level the playing field for some users. Even though the i8 has a transmitter built into its case, it doesn't have the touch-screen. What I love about the JBL transmitter is that I can use the buds with legacy media formats like record players and CD players and adjust the EQ and other sound settings. Legacy media formats can be used with the i8 because that also has a transmitter in the case but the sound profile cannot be adjusted on the spot, as it can with the JBL. That is a unique feature of the Tour Pro 3 and I hope the next iteration of it utilizes the case screen even more. I'd like them to add an FM radio and possibly a memory card slot for MP3 functionality and possibly a WiFi chip and a scaled back Android type of UI that would give users the option to use this as a standalone music player / streamer that could play Spotify or KZbin Music or Pandora and also locally stored music without having to be paired to a phone.

@sicebim1 Noise canceling is slightly better on the Bose I'd say. But the JBL has more Bass and gets slightly louder. The app that goes along with the JBL is probably underrated. It offers a lot more sound customization than most other companion apps. Noise canceling is one of them. There is a setting on the Tour Pro 3 that allows you choose how much noise canceling you want. I feel like a lot of people don't realize that option is there. Turning that all the way up makes a difference. Most earbuds, noise canceling is just on and off.

The funny thing is the big problem for jbl is competiton from their other buds haha .the live beam 3 offer 80% of the functionality for a 3rd of the price

I am an Auracast believer, but finding an Auracast transmitter is proving to be darn near impossible. My application is for a place of worship replacing or augmenting a "T-Loop". Suggestions on a reasonably priced transmitter? On the other hand, what is the range of the case transmitter? 20yds or 20 meters maybe enough.

Honestly, yeah, the auracast feature and all other gimmicks are cool, but just get yourself a decent under 30-50$ pair of earbuds and add in some well fitting foam ear tips and I guarantee you’ll be satisfied and you’ll have over 200 bucks left to do something meaningful with. I’ve been doing it for years after I got frustrated with the sound quality / value of the 200-300$ range earbuds. Now I’m perfectly happy

I'm worried about the fit i have the Live Pro 2s they're good earbuds for the money but the way JBL makes stems is different like the stem just goes straight down from the top. How’s the sound leakage on these? My jbl live pro 2 sound amazing but my seat neighbor on the train has to listen to the same music I do, because everything is leaking out tremendously. Auracast 0.1 so to say, without the need of buds at all for your surroundings:D

I feel that one of the objectives of technology is to replace methods of doing things with other ways of doing them that are more efficient and more convenient. Fundamental to the convenience aspect is that the device or interface between us and the thing it makes more efficient and convenient to do should be as compact in size as the technology and the activity will allow. For example, an e-reader can be compact in that it is thinner and lighter than any book, and can contain many books to save weight and physical space, but must be page-sized to be convenient to read. These ear-buds, or rather their cases, seem to be going the wrong way. Instead of taking existing technology and developing it to make something more compact, JBL has made it bigger. Apple's air-pods are smaller and do a great job, so that is the standard to aim for, but these JBLs are comparatively bulky; too bulky for the pocket. They've gone the wrong way; and why? So they can have a little display on them. Is it really more convenient to control playback by using that little display rather than by using a phone's display?

I've had the jbl live beam 3 and just today listened to these. Jbl live beam 3 kinda quiet on some songs. Tour pro 3 is loud great audio great bass 10/10 even without auracast would recommend

These JBL earbuds are overpriced and the sound is terrible from the factory tuning but even after personal EQ them they still sound terrible sent mine back for a refund won't buy jbl earbuds in the future 😂
