he got majorly screwed over by his record label. when NSYNC was taking a hiatus (every member of the group thought the group was going to get back together... I don't know if Justin thought that or if he was purposely trying to break out), their label knew that JC was creating an album with a similar sound to Justins (JC didnt know that they both had similar sounds) so they purposely screwed JC over so that Justin could break out and JC wouldn't overshine him. They liked what Justin was creating and purposely pushed JC aside. JC was also under the impression that NSYNC was going to be taking a short hiatus and getting back together. The music that is on JC's album, Schizophrenic, wasn't what he actually wanted to release. A lot of those songs were like him just messing around and not being serious, he didn't actually want them to be on his album. His label last minute was like just put it all in an album and release it. If he had actually been able to release the music he wanted to, he would have blown up and his career would have been even more successful than Justin's has ever been. Breaks my heart bc JC was my fav of the group, was more talented than Justin in every way. When the group was taking a hiatus, so many people (hosts of MTV, VH1, popular radio stations, etc) thought that if anyone was going to break out and make it big it would have been JC. He was writing a lot of the music especially towards the end and his vocal skills surpassed Justin by miles. He wrote "The Game Is Over", "The Two Of Us", "Up Against The Wall" and "Selfish" from their album, Celebrity. He co-wrote "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays", "Space Cowboy (Yippi-Yi-Yay)", "No Strings Attached", "Digital Get Down", and "Bringin' Da Noise."

This is a beautiful song, will forever be one of my faves. And I agree with the comments. The reason JC didn't have as successful a solo career as Justin was mainly because of the management. They didn't give as much support and promotion to JC as they did with Justin, period. And I feel like one of the key elements why JC is hesitant to make new music again is because we, as fans, somehow failed him too. He came out with a hugely pop album in Schizophrenic, then fans were quick to say, "Oh, please do R&B or ballad". Then when he does make and release the song, it still didn't get the success it deserved. Other than the management, I have to admit the fans is also partly to blame. We should've supported him all the way. There's nothing wrong with his songs, no way. He's got lots of great ones. Especially this song, this is the soul JC we always wanted. Honestly, it boils down to the management, then the fans.

Agreed! I’ve seen some complaints that Schizophrenic was too different or sexualized for NSYNC fans but the writing on his solo album seems similar to his style of what he wrote for nsync. I also read that this song and the others he was working on for his second album were leaked by his record label, and then he couldn’t take the music to a new label :( It’s so sad and frustrating.

This song was actually something John Mayer started working on but he didn't have the vocal ability(pitch intuitivity, etc.) to sing the right notes over the spicy chords and match the vocal melody to the instrumental structure, so he scrapped it and instead wrote a similar sounding song that was very cookie cutter without all the interesting melody changes(dreaming with a broken heart) John Mayer's co-writer then collaberated with JC Chasez to finish working on the original idea.

Vocal wise I totally agree with you. But as far as song choice/writing/composing, I think that's the difference between them. JC unfortunately made terrible song choices and experimented too much unlike Justin who knew exactly what he wanted/needed to do. Why wasn't this released as a single?? I was such a huge fan of JC in NSYNC. Liked him better than Justin. But I didn't like the direction that they decided to go with him solo. He had some pretty pervy videos and that was just uncomfortable for me. But this kind of song, with the attention to depth in the lyrics, and focus on his amazing vocal power, is exactly why I fell in love with his artistry.

Chelly Rainbow I think after the whole super bowl thing and how far Justin went with his career, he probably didn't feel as confident to pursue his album. His label probably felt the same way. OR he decided to focus more on producing. I really feel like the Super Bowl thing really impacted his career! I know some of his songs are questionable, but looking at songs now... shows that he was heading the right direction. 😩
