Active Time Lore is one of the best kept secrets of this game. It's an amazing feature and I found myself spamming it like every 30 seconds every time a new character or location was introduced.

Right off the bat with the real cursing (words besides bastard or damn), sex, and all the blood and gore is WILD. This is already incredibly dark and mature. The end of the fight between Ifrit and Phoenix was bone-chilling…

What does the darkness add to it? It is literally the same opening as ff12 except someone turned into a bird. We have seen the castle being seiged and someone's brother dying before. What did this "darkness" add to the game?

​​@@thehater6189 The whole purpose of stories is to make you feel something. The fact that the scene made you unsettled arleady gave you the answer. Sure the story would proceed with the same beats if he threw his brother off a cliff. But would you have felt unsettled about it? Probably not.

@@thehater6189 well, in a short time people grow attached to his father, to joshua, to clive, probably consider the mom sus af for hating clive, and let us as the player feel what joshua might have felt in those moments. as someone who has had a person's dying blood on my hands (friend chose the self harm route and went too far...long story wont go into that) it really does add to it. if we were to just see joshua's shocked face we would probably know his dad died, and we'd be like yo. traitors. but seeing the blood splatter, the head rolling, the look of shock, it adds to the spectacle and..well. the sheer shock factor to us for just how brutal it really is. when a game like this isnt afraid to tread lightly it can add some extra nuances to the story that probably wouldnt be possible if this were say...a pixelated 2d final fantasy. For example: kefka poisons the water, and we see pixels disappear right? but imagine they remade that game, and redid something that shows the effect the poison has on them, and how the people of doma struggle and writhe in pain. suddenly it becomes MUCH more brutal and the sheer evil of kefka's actions is brought to light. done WELL, brutality can help engage the players more to the story and help you realize the weight of some actions that are taken more than simply alluding to them offscreen. and this is brutality done well. and i dont really think that showcasing some of the things they did offscreen would have the same impact on people as when theyre shown the results of people's actions in game.

Now we know Clive’s origins as well as his hellbent need for vengeance. He had his oath stripped from him, family forsakes, and worse of all, his own mother sells him to the empire, a damn traitor the king unknowingly lost his head too. I’m already sold with filling out the lore archives with this final fantasy. This one saved fourteen and trusting yoshi p with a main staple title now😦 a resurgence of unreal storytelling is gonna nuke our minds like the old days but in more mature content. We all knew the father would die, as that’s kind of a trope, but Joshua dying and the mother being the betrayer was extremely surprising. This is such a tonal shift from Final Fantasy 15 it seems. The brutality and engaging story will probably force me to buy the game, and that’ll be my first Final Fantasy outside of the mobile Opera Omnia game.

Torgal is fine and his chocobo Ambrosia is ok, everyone human in that place except Clive died. Clive turned into Ifrit involuntarily and couldn't control the Eikon he turned into. This might make more sense to you, Yoshida required the development team to watch 4 seasons of Game of Thrones to gain inspiration from a preexisting mature fantasy.

I don’t think Clive did it. When Joshua is looking from inside his body there is a yellow tint on screen. When Clive is looking at Ifrit bash Phoenix, he has the same yellow tint. I think he’s inside Torgal (hidden Eikon Fenrir) as Torgal protects Clive from the fire. 2:30:13

I see a lot of people saying the deaths are brutal, but I feel different about that notion. I think the reason why so many people find themselves shook over the deaths is because of how realistic they are. The realism in seeing them go in these specific manners. It draws you into the most minor of characters in which we remember them not for who they were but how they went out

VI? What Kefka does is a clean death to those people and what Ardyn did was systematically for 10 years and he killed more than Kefka did IV? one thing i havent seen thats been very apparent, even in the eikonic challenge demo section...the drops for that part of the demo, are randomized. the loot from the chest, is random as well, procedurally generated maybe? which probably means that endgame gear will definitely allow us to tailor our abilities to perfectly fit our build/playstyle. and its not like. super overwhelming with a billion different stat allocations for accessories, theyre just damage buffers or cooldown reductions, maybe there's some that alter how certain abilities interact. there were also colored rarities on accessories and crafting items. and i love me some relatively deep arpg customization.

I was shouting GOTY even before the demo dropped but holy fucking shit this demo just sold it so hard. You just shake and tremble at the fantastic voice acting in this and all the feels it just smears in your face. I play this demo at least three times a day now just to kill time waiting for the release date. You should definitely read the lore shit during a few certain cutscenes though! You find out that that bitch mother is actually the Archduke's cousin... so yeah, incest family (unless they decided it meant they're cousins via marriage or something, but knowing how Japan feels about incestuous relationships in darker anime and manga, I'm betting full blown incest here). They pumped sooooooooo much into this demo it took me at least 7 playthroughs to absorb all of the information. In the second section though, there's a trick I learned to take advantage of... See, I'm not the best at action games. I hate dodging and usually end up with my face smeared on the floor and it takes me a good while to really adapt to the techniques I can abuse to get better at the gameplay. Equip the items that make it a square button mash: auto evade, auto combo and auto potion. When you have these on, you can just smash square and watch the game play itself, BUT this is an advantage: you are automatically evading what you can and you can focus on what your character is doing in terms of combos. This gives a whole other perspective to the gameplay. The game will automatically show you what IT thinks is optimal gameplay with the combos and you can learn new tricks that you can incorporate to your own combos to improve damage output. Obviously keeping these on for the whole game breaks it and makes it ludicrously easy, but it's a good learning tool to pick up new tricks you can add to your own gameplay style. Now I'm going to go play it for the fourth time today just because lol how anyone can play this and not instantly buy it is just insane, and not the fun kind of insane
