This was an absolutely excellent interview, Baer has the most complete understanding of the Islamic world that I've ever seen from an American commentator. His points that Iran and the Shia are more logical actors and that the really enemy is in Sunni fundamentalism is spot on.

To add, a lot of people have said the interviewer was not as efficient as they would have liked. To be honest, I feel most interviewers talk too much and this lack of directive questioning gave more room for Mr Baer to talk freely (or as freely as a CIA operative can!).

fascinating guy but I feel like the interviewer could of been somewhat more proficient.. it seemed like he was just listening and trying to absorb all the information instead of continuing the conversation and actually putting forth interesting dialogue or questions.. I don't know if he was just having trouble taking it all in, or if processes just get somewhat slower with age..

He's a rare person - he makes statements with almost no subject or conclusion and yet he's making really good points somewhere in the sentence, just hard to follow. It's no wonder he didn't do well in school, but did well in the CIA. His bosses must have thought he was either an idiot, just plane nuts or a genius. Don't know what to make of him, but he's clearly a libertarian, which is not always a good thing for a spy's CV.

Robert Baer is incorrect with his assessment of Edward Snowden. I don’t find Mr Baer to be humble. He plays it down with his calm demeanor and enjoys the spotlight. That’s fine. Just don’t pretend to be wise and humble. You were a paid assassin so when you present yourself as noble just remember your job was murder for hire.
