Just purchased a Euonymus carnosus and was a little worried so I was glad to hear I made a good decision 🙂

It's an incredibly charismatic tree in both the spring and in the fall, and it's a great small deciduous tree the rest of the year. We really love the one planted by our parking lot. You didn't just make a good decision, you made a great one!

@18:36 the nursery going out of business, Brightside Bamboo?
@jcraulstonarbАй бұрын
Yes, that's right. They still offer consulting, containment, and removal services, but they're closing down their nursery.

Tetrapanax has a forked leaf. Kind of a double split. Fatsia is single in each indentation. I would call it more invasive than thuggish. Gone under the fence and headed for the woods.

For the "Garden at Night" do you know of any perennials/trees/shrubs that fluoresce under ultraviolet light? Zone 7B Lynchburg, VA.
@jcraulstonarbАй бұрын
There are some flowers in nature that have nectar guides that can only be seen under ultraviolet light as purple stripes or spots, but they do not fluoresce. For years scientists have been adding green fluorescent protein from fungi and bacteria to plants for research purposes. Recently a company that breeds annuals made a genetically modified petunia for the retail trade and added GFP to the plant so that it glows under fluorescent light. Google "gfp plants" and you'll find lots of information on this phenomenon.

What's the chartreuse plant with round leaves in the background between Blake and Gregg Page?
@jcraulstonarbАй бұрын
That's Echinodorus bracteatus 'Lantau Lady'. This is an aquatic plant that can be grown outside of water as well. The chartreuse bits you're seeing are little plantlets that have formed on the stems that are becoming chlorotic due to a lack of nutrition in the water; the plant they're coming off of is in potting media in a container and has much deeper green foliage because it is not nutrient deficient. We went into greater depths talking about this plant live on air before we got started with our program. You can join us live on Wednesdays at 3 at jcra.ncsu.edu/midweek/ to make sure you don't miss anything!
