@@jcwdiggeryeah my friend and the worst is family members. Anyway great find happy for ya. Been looking for a treasure for last couple of years and I stopped looking for it. Because apparently the country where I am from the law says gov will take everything and I'll get nothing so I stopped even though I know how the place will look even after all these years, I'm talking about +30 gold bars all from 1kg to 8kg each .

Cool find.So much burglary,I have found busted open safes,etc...Once I touched stupidly,and once home realized my prints were all over,so called the state police so I could not be mistook.lol.People may think you "Salted",but when you truly love the hobby,are happy as long as machine is on.I hit jackpot all the time and like you,found multi in one spot.Is so much out there to find.I learned to go in winter when brush is down,gain the virgin ground.Don't do the ballfield,but the little patch on sidehill driving down.lol..Other hunters want comfort.lol..Friend found a Frame of old womans change purse,material long rotted away(Liner remained).Inside seated everything and Gold pieces.lol..I have hit seated club,but no gold coins yet.lol..Glad you were able to video.I often am alone so wish while digging I recorded.Corn field next to hometowns ballpark,found a 1849 seated liberty half dime.About 8 inches down.Old buck who owns coin shop was right near me.lol..I took him on my jaunt,and he drove long way,was just saying to myself "Please lord,let Carl find something great."..lol..Sorry the long post,cheers!!!

Franklin halves didn't start until 1948, so the cache must have been hidden in '48 or later, that's about 10 years after the depression ended. But it is a great cache of coins! Congratulations on such a terrific find. That's a once-in-a-lifetime find, good for you!

Could the broken-in-half coin be half of a Spanish Reale? If you are in the Maryland/Virginia area it could quite possibly be just that as loads of them are found all the time there.
@veritasfiles8 жыл бұрын
The fact that you found a Franklin Half means that you didn't find a great depression cache. You just found someone in the 40s or 50s who kept some of their old coins. Great find though.

The one Quater that looked weird around the edges ,someone was trying to make a ring out of it , also the two with holes in them, I know a gentleman that used to do that and that is how he would start the process to make a ring.

electrolysis ,i think is the cause of holes and oddities...maybe it even causes them to look worn from rubbing

The coin at 18:14, did you ever find out what it was? it is actually a danish coin, zinc 5 or 2 øre (hard to tell from the back) minted between 1948-1972 with the monogram FR (Frederik Rex) our King Fredrik the 9th, King of Denmark from 1947-1972. wierd seen you find that coin way over there :) try googleing "5 øre 1950"

18:08 That's a Danish coin! It's quite big so it might be a 2 øre coin but there should be a number on the other side 1, 2, 5 or 10. 1 øre is 6 cents and the coin a fairly common but not in use anymore as the lowest currency is 50 øre. But that's really weird for it to show up in Murrica

Congrats on the great finds! I went metal detecting just earlier today and found my first two silver items ever! I've only been doing it a few weeks, and I found about $4.50 in quarters (clad), 21 pennies (one wheat that I scratched with my shovel), $1.40 in dimes (clad), one men's silver nugget ring and a very thin silver child's bracelet. I just cant describe the awesome feeling of finding something other than aluminum cans, pull-tabs and beat up Lincoln memorials . By the way do you ever pan that creek for gold? Happy hunting!
@thomaswarren97039 жыл бұрын
Your 1944 silver quarter was a misprint that's why the letters and numbers are stretched not smashed(that's what a hammer would do). Could be worth a lot to a collector.
@steveallen984 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think it's a mint error also. It appears to be struck without the collar so the outer rim blew outwards. We don't find them much today because people pick them out of change but back then they didn't care so much about a deformed coin. Money was money and back in 1950 it was only .50 cents for a gallon of milk and .09 cents for a 1 lb loaf of bread. So that 1 quarter was equalled to 6 or 7 quarters in buying power so they weren't worried about keeping a funny looking coin that's struck funny. Just as long as it was a real quarter and not counterfeit was all they worried about. Today that's a $100- $200 mint error coins and even more for an old silver error. Actually it might be a quarter that was struck in a nickel hub which smashed the outer perimeter of the larger quarter making it worth even more

My first thought is that the container is an old pneumatic tube.
@couar3519 жыл бұрын
Did you double check the spot where you found it? More than likely some of the coins have fallen out when the container broke hitting the rocks. Amazing how it wasn't disturbed much after all these years. Probably an isolated part of the river where few people venture into
