Restore it. Redo the wood bed, just make it like it use to be
@Cartier_specialist5 жыл бұрын
Exactly, there's too many rat rods and "patina" is just a term used by people too lazy to properly restore a car or truck. Also LS swapping isn't such an easy task. Nothing on a modern drive train is backwards compatible. You'll need a complete donor car if you want to put in an LS drive train with all the computers and sensors to make it run properly. Not to mention making the gauges and everything work.
@jamesireland91885 жыл бұрын
@@Cartier_specialist Has nothing to do with being lazy lol alot of people just appreciate it that way. I know bunch of people who did the same thing and they are far from lazy . They have some they restored frame up but some of their favs are the unmolested ones. And if you know what to do Ls swap isn't that tough just need patience.

My girlfriend's got a dark green 66 C10 Stepside pretty much like yours. Only upgrade she made was adding a Tremec 5 speed manual into it. For now, get it running and driving. Later, give it a 5 speed and probably just a healthy small block will do nicely. However, if you have plenty of cash to burn on it, I say you go full resto on it. Good luck to you in this. Can't wait to see where you go with it. BTW, your boy's adorable.

You should've added fluid before testing the brakes,also the clutch on those are hydrolic. You can order parts for these online fairly easy,but on the front suspension,replace the crossmember with a newer one,use the matching a-arms etc,it will be way easier to get replacement parts!

I had pretty much the same truck but a 65. I bought it from my brother after he had done the work but needed money. In no way stock. Bucket seats, 4 speed and a 350 that could spin the truck around and have it sitting beside where you started out. The motor had everything performance done to to it 19 years ago. For personal reasons I sold the truck for way less than she was worth. It was to me a good reason (Helping out a friend) miss that truck but at age 57 I still have time to get another and fix it up.

Here is my vote JD. Leave the patina and clear over it. Make the interior nice so it’s comfortable to drive. Put your money into great suspension parts, brakes, and drive train. Make it fast and fun to drive. I would swap in a ford motor and drive train from a junk yard ford donor vehicle with fuel injection. That would be the most fun to drive and reliable.

Adventures in metal working. Take it all apart and fix all rust. Paint hot pink or black. if you convert the motor(I wouldn't) go with 350 4 bolt main with a 350 turbo-hydromatic. Highway gear rear end and drum to disc brakes at least in the front. Unless you plan to race it.

I bet if you cleaned the points and hooked up a jumper box to the battery that 63 would fire right up... you going to have lots of fun with that truck... here's a tip how to drive a three on the tree... never grab the shifter, go palm up and pull toward you to go from reverse to first and just slide it between gears... palm down and push to slide between second and third... palm down to to from first to second and palm up to go from second to first... if you just grab the shifter and try to manhandle it between the gears they will grind. Look at it this way.... even if you do swap in an LS motor, in reality you ARE basically installing a FORD ENGINE... The LS was designed by a Ford racing guy and you can swap heads back and forth between the LS and a Ford Windsor if you get an intake and relocate 2 bolt holes in the block and I think 1 water passage is different. You can even use the same head gaskets on both engines with just a slight modification.

Besides the 64 GMC that I brought back from the dead in a few hours, I've gotten a number of other vehicles up and running in a short amount of time. A chevy straight six and a one barrel is probably the easiest motor to get going. You do realize I'm talking about the motor running, not a fully functioning truck.
