To everyone who doesn't wear a face shield during grinder/buffer operations: That bite at 21:36 ? Yeah, no face shield on, and he would have lost about four or five teeth, and likely stitches at the minimum, if not a fractured jaw. Marty was lucky there, because he had his proper PPE. That 12 dollar plastic sheet saved him what would have been around a thousand in the States.

@20:00 Marty - lose the fabric gloves around extremely powerful, high speed spinning machinery, that's a MAJOR safety no no. I know they're part of the brand, but the thin latex/neoprene gloves the shop guy was wearing will tear right off your hand, but the fabric ones will suck your arm(and the rest of your body) in should that lathe grab it. But, that out of the way, AWESOME piece! Great insight into a local business of CRAFTSMEN.

Yup. Granted I did paint mine with a rattlecan, but still. Only a tiny chip on the paint from the machine when I got new tires for the second time. Damn shame of you ask me since they're a rare version of sort-of common wheels, (OEM E36 M3 double-spokes, staggered, with "BMW MOTORSPORT" stamping, only available in that exact config in 1994-1995, later ones have no stamping) but my paintjob wasn't 100% anyway.
@El_Chompo6 жыл бұрын
Mounting tires is the one time that you lose control over your car, almost everything else can be done yourself. I've watched videos and it *is* possible to mount tires yourself without a machine, and even balance them to some extent. It's extremely difficult though, you need large levers and a lot of weight and strength. It's just like how you do a bike tire but so much harder. And on big lo pro wheels I don't even know if it's possible by hand with levers.

"Pépite d'or" is the word for gold nuggets. Or for other small bits of things, like "pépites de chocolat" for "chocolate chips". For chicken nuggets we say "Nuggets de poulet". For cars which doesn't work properly we have some funky words like "chignole", "bouzin", "charette" but "merguez" is probably the most appropriate ;)

My favourite Ausises Will you ever twin turbo the Barra and stroke it to 4.2l and call it the "420 Cressy"?
@swiggityswootyimcominfodat70786 жыл бұрын
Twin turbo is not necessarily better than single turbo.
@swiggityswootyimcominfodat70786 жыл бұрын
Jorn Navarre a single turbo also delivers a more linear power curve, since there is no interruption from a different turbo. A Stock R34 Skyline has parallel twin turbos, rx7 and supra have sequential twins, but those are stock, most of them upgrade those to a big single turbo, for lots of different reasons like maintenance, cost, drivability etc, besides, a twin turbo setup is often heavier and more complex, besides it creates more heat, there is less room for bigger turbos which Essentially means less power
@dj4monie6 жыл бұрын
True but you can do a compound setup, you can also spray the F out of it and make a ton of power, either option works. But the problem is neither Marty or Moog can drive the car as it currently setup to it's full potential so they need to work on that first. Making power today is easy...
@crowythebutcher61276 жыл бұрын
Jemarc Quash Boxhill single turbo is better and the higher hp motors are usually de stroked to a 3.8 for higher revs
@swiggityswootyimcominfodat70786 жыл бұрын
Crowy The butcher destroke means less torque tho You can have a car that revs to 10k, but what's the point of it when it has the same Power as a Civic when it reaches 10k You need to utilize the powerband dude, shift at the right point so that your car has the most torque available when you shift

Marty, the zinc bolts are closer in metallurgical composition to the aluminum (aluminium). It seems that the stainless steel would be less reactive but it is further away in composition than zinc and will promote deterioration of the aluminum faster than galvanized (zinc coated) bolts. I would ship my wheels across the world to let these guys do their work. Awesome video. One of the best MCM vids and I didn't expect to be that interested in a wheel resto. Friggen awesome.

The injection of Barrel Brothers flavour into the video made an interesting change. It's also good to see how stoked Marty gets the closer the wheels are to being finished.

Honestly surprised with all the equipment they have that they don't have either an automated seam welder, or at least a turn table to turn the wheel as he welds. I know they exist because I've used one where I used to work. And they aren't expensive enough that they wouldn't be paid off in a weeks time with the time/labor they would save.

sinformant lol I was thinking about a turn table for welding to while watching, then see they have a turn table for when painting them🤦🏻♂️

These guys clearly have a bit of an old-school, hands-on aesthetic and work ethic. I think the fact that they use vintage machinery and techniques in a lot of ways lends credibility to their services. Not that modernizing would hurt, but honestly I have no idea as an outsider watching a video on youtube about what their motivations are for having "outdated" equipment. As my old woodworking teacher would say of his 70's lathe - "If it still works as intended, it still works as intended."

Adelle Blaire I think it's cool with pure fabrication. It's a waste of time for this though

DO NOT WEAR GLOVES WHEN OPERATING MACHINERY! (especially tough gloves) It's really dangerous especially near mills, lathe, and grinders...
@tinatpasselepoivre6 жыл бұрын
why? they can get stuck in it? Last time my grinders disk broke my glove protected me from the schrapnel...
@Houyoo6 жыл бұрын
You could wear thinner gloves like Latex ones but when you are wearing something like Kevlar gloves, once the wheel/motor catches it, it will grab like no other. (by the way, I am talking about pedestal grinder / bench grinder) I know it is very convenient to wear gloves while using grinder since it seems like it will protect you from flying chips or getting cuts from sharp edges, but its really dangerous because of the reason I said above.
@wolfy90056 жыл бұрын
I've grinded all kinds of gloves, never had a pair get stuck. Same crowd that say synthetics are super-duper flammable, my melted polyester shirts from grinding sparks and hot tig filler rods makes baby OHS nazis cry

Not to mention watches and rings. Seeing Marty working with the watch that close to rotating parts was a bit of a pucker moment haha. There's some pretty gruesome pictures and videos of workplace incidents involving people getting caught up in a lathe. Just a whole lotta nope.
@EngineeringAndRestoration6 жыл бұрын
I'm glad they included the near miss on the episode, it should convey the dangers of abrasive wheels. Rotating parts love to eat any loose clothing and gloves therefore should be respected, they will take as much of you as they can without mercy. The only time you should wear gloves when operating machinery is if your construction site mandates it, otherwise they are a hazard to yourself and those around you.

Marty - 30:18. My uncle was a cabinet maker with exceptional attention to detail. 30 years ago when I questioned, "but you will never see it", he fired back at me. Nobody sees your arse, but you still wipe it.
