As a British man I really appreciate you guys love for this movie. Such a great review, glad to see it translates well across the pond. This is my go to movie on a Friday night once the children are in bed and I can crack open a bottle of sherry. Chin chin you terrible cxxt’s 😃

The movie is now an instant classic in my house once I actually saw it thanks to Ted's recommendation. Absolutely hilarious.

As a British woman, this is one of my favourite films, it was huge over here and yes Ive participated in the drinking game although no one makes it to the end. Love it!

This film is so well put together, even with the stale camera works. But the script is so good, it's one of the best scripts I've ever heard, and read. A film with no plot, no drive for a comedy. Completely driven by the characters. Withnail based on Vivian, who died at 50. And Marwood, or "& I" is based off Bruce. It's truly one of the best things I have ever seen. And watched countless times. At 16.

Its 'Absolute Twoddle'...not 'toddle'...JFYI fellow Withnail fans not from UK...Great review vid chaps...Big thanks...I'm a Brit but know the US very well having travelled 42 contiguous states and coast to coast 3 times via car on road trips...so it surprised me to find this US review and brothers across the pond actually get the movie...I just thought it was so cult british that it wouldn't be understood anywhere else other than UK...So great to find this review...

I watched this movie yesterday after Johnny Depp highly recommended everyone should watch it. I ordered a second hand DVD as I couldn’t find it anyone to stream or buy new. (Why??? It should be widely available!!). I loved it!!’ Was so funny and classic!! I’ll be lending this out for others to watch for sure. Can’t wait to see my Dads reaction - he also loves British humour.

I'd like to raise a glass to you both. Barman! A pair of quadruple whiskies, two large gins, a bottle of Chateau Margaux 1953 (best of the century) lighter fluid, anti-freeze and two pints of cider. Ice in the cider.

The greatest film dialogue in film history, my favourite being "Stop saying that , With nail , of COURSE he's the fucking farmer !!" 😝😝😝 The only other film that comes close is Diner

I'm also careful never to describe this film as a comedy when I'm recommending it. I just say it's an interesting cult film. I don't remember laughing very much the first time I watched it; but I still felt a deep connection to the characters and scenarios. And have gone on to watch it 40+ times. It's in my Top 5, anyway.
@galesito1733 Жыл бұрын
You missed out an important thing about this film - apart from being about the end of their friendship, it's also an allegory for the end of the 1960s, hence the powerful use of Hendrix's music. I didn't realise this either on first viewing but Bruce has talked about it a lot over the years.

Yes. Also, the play that Marwood gets cast in, is Journey’s End by R.C. Sherriff, set in WWI trenches, where there are many ex-public school chaps and an alcoholic Captain. ‘I’ has a copy of the play in his suitcase at the end.

Great to see this appreciated across the pond, it’s all about the dialogue, (pretty good score too as it happens) Virtually the entire script is quotable. Sherry?

One of the greatest movies in history, endlessly quotable. I've seen it a billion times and I still find new jokes in it... most recently Danny's throw-away line about his mate "Working on a prototype" for the doll that sh*ts itself! thanks for THAT image And that ending chokes me up everytime...Withnail "playing the Dane" (ie Hamlet) You just know he's going to drink himself to death without Marwood... Great review guys, love from England xx

My all time favourite film.... Seen it over 160 times , usually drunk through the infamous drinking game but I can still quote it verbatim. Maybe it's a British thing..... And yes , it's pronounced phonetically Withnal ..... The greatest film ever ....

My all time favourite film withnail nails the hamlet speech at the end. Then the credits roll withnail walks off and he doesn't take the path I found that very moving. My mission is to visit regents park and do that walk

Not my brother Jon (although you are my favorite brother..lol) but TED!!!I I got 5 minutes into this review when i realized that I had to see this movie that I had never heard of before watching all the spoilers. GREAT MOVIE!! So glad I didn't watch this first. All I knew about it was that it was full of ..um..recreational adult activities.. and the perfect amount of the bizarre.Great call Ted. A lot of my English-speaking friends from Canada did not find it funny. Humour is not universal. Also many people who are not Canadian or American do not find Seinfeld funny. I myself love this movie and often find myself quoting it in certain everyday situations. I know every line and every accent. Marwood and Danny also have roles in Alien 3.
