Being a DM/GM, you are absolutely crafting a story, but doing so, so loosely and openly that it grows and evolves with the interaction of the players. You should never get too attached to something or every cool idea. And never throw a fit because players do their own thing. I knew my players well, they loved to derail, leap before looking and "solve" the mystery with just one clue. Gotta let them drift a bit, land softly and hit them with the good twist and turns. It is vital you account for human error and people just doing their thing, and keep personal feelings to a minimum. Finally, and it should be obvious but clearly isn't, do not try to hit on your players and become emotionally unstable over it.

That’s definitely a fair point. A DM has the ultimate say to craft the story and the players decide how much they are willing to interact with said story. The perfect campaign is where all sides are having fun!

Always be prepared for things to derail, because they often will. So you gotta make damn sure that you have a good world around the railroad tracks.

There is no "ME" or "MY" in dnd. Only a WE. You can own a world or a server alone. But you sure as hell can't play a dnd campaign alone and populating a server alone... boring. But most importantly, it isn't HIS story. It's as much his story as it is the players story

@@Kazuhiro-i well, you're talking to me, aren't you? I think that's a start. Now just get on roll20 and repeat the process. Find a game that works for you and sounds interesting and ask if you can join. If not, search for another. This is how i found my group. No regrets.👍

i think he should've told the DM to f* off as soon as their partner said they were uncomfortable. He knows they're together, constant attempt at flirting with your partner isn't ok.

Now I never played DnD or an tabletop RPG on discord so I don't know how it actually works but it seems to that to avoid a lot of future drama, as a DM or Player, treat it like a dating app and state upright, "I want a linear story or open world." Also, I never felt like I was a good DM as I didn't have the rules or generic monsters stats commited to memory. But I I thought if I did, I'd have my players make 2 characters. 2nd being an archrival to the other. And alternate between the 2 each session. Then you can have the one style for one party, and the other for the other party. So one week your players can have complete control, then the next week (if your DM wants linear) your playing that style. On paper, seems like that makes everyone happy. You can grumble "This is bullshit, wait til next week" then maybe by next week, emotions have cooled down. Or atleast you thought of how to passively aggressively screw someone else.

You are definitely right that a clear outline of the type of game should be addressed early on. I try to ask players how much they like certain aspects of the game (if they things like more/less combat, roleplay, puzzles).

Yeah, no. In my experience there is only 2 ways someone like that gets their problems resolved. Both include police, but one includes jail time.

Sorry but I believe that DM's shouldn't just change a player's class according to their whims, unless it's a paladin that has clearly violated their oaths and it's in agreement with the player...

I agree, the player already has limited control of things. Changing his subclass is one of the few things they get to pick in a campaign.

This is why im so reluctant to try to approach people.to play. Jone of my friend want and im very shy, im emotional and I dont let people do this type of shit xd I speak my mind. Im mature enough and know when to shut up but I would have definitely didnt stay quite about this and would have simply encourage others to leave lol. Anyway I dont have much tolerance to people that abuse power so yeah
