The thing that always messes me up concerning Oikawa is that you have to remember he wasn't a prodigy a volleyball, which is why he had such a problem with Kageyama who could achieve the same things as him with far less work. Oikawa worked himself to the point of burnout basically all to go to nationals and he was robbed of the opportunity by that same naturally talented kid he had resented so much in middle school. I honestly can't imagine how that would've felt, to work so hard for so long and then be beaten by a first year with far less experience, who is still somehow better than you

Oikawa's life was cruel and unfair to him. I'm not saying that Kageyama wasn't having cruel times, but at least he wasn't robbed at opportunities, because of others. Imagine that you have dreams, but in these same kind of dreams, other people can interfere. Example Oikawa wanting to be at the Nationals and having Kageyama or Ushijima as obstacles in his way.

no matter what anyone says, i will ALWAYS be defending oikawa. yes he made mistakes but he doesnt deserve to be hated. not bc i love him, but bc he tried just as hard as kageyama did. i also love kageyama but oikawa owns my heart. edit: i rewatched this and i realized that oikawa probably hates himself for not being good enough. thats why hes trying so hard to be better than kageyama. kageyama also has faced his own challenges, but imagine someone younger than you being better than you after only one or two years of playing volleyball while you have practiced all day 24/7 for as long as you remember. he thinks he's worthless. that's probably another reason he didnt want to go to the better school. he didnt think he was good enough. he wanted to show everyone his hard work but kageyama kept stealing the spotlight. now im not saying kageyama suffered bc he also did but hes the one of the mcs so barely anyone hates him while oikawa is this "villain" whos "bullying" kageyama and preventing kags from going to nationals. im sure oikawa was very proud if kageyama but obviously he doesnt want to show that bc itll make him seem hes weak or hes admitting defeat. poor baby :(

He's the most relatable chatacter for me 🤧, As someone who used to train so hard at a certain sport, I finally got an opportunity to go nationals but like, 1 day before our flight there was a typhoon in that city so our mayor canceled the flight (some went, but with their own money, and there's risk so), the next year, it was finals then but there was covid so yeah 🙂. That was also my last year of highschool so I already quit 😌...

When i just saw oikawa, i hated him for his insane pride. But really, his life is hardest out of everyone's in haikyuu. He overworked his body training to get to nationals and beat Ushijima but he didn't get to. Not to mention, he's probably really insecure. Like, yes, I'm also crying for Aoba Josai, butt keep in mind everyone trained hard, and enough people trained just as hard as he did. I can relate to oikawa so much, I play softball and I thought I was good until, I Tried out for a team that was so competitive,and I didn’t make it on. It was heartbreaking, ever since then I’ve beaten myself up every time I screw up a play.I’ve worked so hard and to see all the people who don’t practice much just dominate the field. I beat my self up constantly over it. Just today I practiced at least 2 hours, after having 2 games. Then having to practice volleyball, god I wish I had “natural” talent.
