The best drivers could drive the car at its limit consistently and flawlessly. Alesi and Gilles could drive way, way, way past it. All you needed to do was give alesi a 10s stop go penalty and let him loose (Japan 95, obliterated the rainmeister until his car cried no more). Records mean nothing, when you see a driver like this, you know it's not learned, it's not talent, it's not cunning, it's raw skill, pure and simple.

Alesi was a daredevil. A highly aggressive overtaker but always clean and spectacular. If even half of his moves shown in this video were attempted by todays drivers, there would be a lot of shoving, pushing off the track and crashing. If only he would've taken the Williams contract, instead of the Ferrari one... And i'm saying this even as Scuderia fan.
@gorkab84613 жыл бұрын
I just pushed your positive comments number from 27 to 28, I'm sure you will forgive me :) Fully agree with you, this was an era of correctness, where aggressive moves existed only in very critical circumstances, not as a norm. Alesi 1st, king of the warriors

One of my all time favourites. I didn't only like his driving style, he was a real man who wasn't afraid to show some emotion. Thesedays drivers simply don't show emotion or much personality anymore, every thing is so overly cold, clean and polished.
@jacobmassey38973 жыл бұрын
Jean definitely deserved better through his career he easily had what it took to be a champion if only Ferrari had given him some decent cars between 1991 and 95. He also deserved better than to drive for Sauber and Prost which felt like an insult for a man of his level.

If you ask F1 pilots the list of 5 legend drivers in the 90's they ll say, Senna, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher and Alesi... even with just one Victory. Hakkinen, Hill, villeneuve or Coulthard despite their victories didnt provide the same emotion.

Eddie Jordan should've let Damon Hill leave when he wanted to in 99 and put Alesi in the car instead. By the time he finally got his chance at Jordan the team had already begun to slump back down the order.

He did unbelievable things with that underpowered Tyrell. For some reason he lost a bit of his raw speed when he joined Ferrari. Great driver but he doesn't come close to Prost, Senna or Schumacher.

Don't be so sad. You're not alone 😊 I am old enough to remember his great performances in F1 races as part of Tyrrell team. He was fighting for first place with Ayrton Senna 🤯 It was my hero. His driving always gave me big smile on my face 😛 It's a shame, that Ferrari in that time wasn't reliable enough to give him more victories. Anyway for me he is a legend of F1 racing. He always pushed his car to the limits and sometimes far beyond in pursuit to be the fastest person on race track 😉

Exactly and when he went to Benetton Schumacher brought all that team to Ferrari. Alesi's Ferraris were a disaster. We know Prost was sacked for calling it a truck. If Jean had kept the original Williams contract he'd have been a multi-time world champion. Genius. Gentleman. 27.
