Does anyone know the context in which this piece by Rebel was written? Rebel is a composer so intriguing, and his output counts with musical gems like "Les Elemens", "Les Caracteres de la Danse", "Phantasie".

If what Wikepedia explains is correct, I'd suggest a viola of a particular size: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Vingt-quatre_Violons_du_Roi Scroll down to "Instrumentation". Note that Rebel is referred to at the end. No wonder there is so much colour and depth in this music! Sumptuous.
