Dear Robin, I wish you could get a chance to listen to J. E. Gardiner's rendition of "Les Fêtes d'Hébé" (Paris, Théâtre des Champs Élysées, January 1981), then you're bound to fall in love with JPR's music for the second time, eh! Unfortunately this is a radio recording not available on CD as far as I know. It's on a par with Gardiner's Boréades recorded a year later, with which you're probably familiar with. Maybe they'll be able to clean it up, with the help of AI or whatever, and finally make it widely available some day soon!

I used to have Gardiner's 1981 recording of "Dardanus" on LP. It was superb! Is it available on CD? Because if it is, I'd love to have it.

@@Michel-eg9ehI'd also love to have Gardiner's radio performance of "Les Fetes d'Hebe" if it's ever released on CD. That's possibly my favorite work by JPR.

@valerietaylor9615 I'll try to get in touch with the right people to make that happen... listening to Vashegyi's or Christie's versions on CD in the meantime, in spite of their small defects (e.g. their use of brass jingles on the tambourines).

A quite brillant rendition of the purely instrumental parts of this masterful and should I say, inspired and inspirational opera, of which there are two main versions (1737 & 1754). The vocal and choral parts are equally impressive, so listening to William Christie's and Charles Farncombe's respective recordings of these two versions is a must, and the instrumental performances in both of these do not by any means pale beside what we're listening to here.

I agree I have many Bill Christie’s opera sets which I love I also like to hear the suites of Rameau’s great music.
