"Esta grabación dedicada a Jean-Philippe Rameau y la orquesta de Luis XV continúa nuestras anteriores publicaciones relacionadas con las orquestas de Luis XIII y Philidor y de Luis XIV y Lully. Aunque Rameau no tuvo con Luis XV la misma relación ni el mismo papel que los que mantuvo Lully con Luis XIV, si la memoria viva de la orquesta de un rey de Francia como Luis XV merece ser asociada con un único músico, la mejor elección es sin duda Jean-Philippe Rameau. En efecto, la extraordinaria diversidad, la riqueza y la invención del lenguaje orquestal, las formas y la instrumentación que nos ha dejado Rameau -sobre todo en sus oberturas, sinfonías, danzas y otros "airs à jouer", incluidos en sus más de 17 óperas, ballets, tragedias y pastorales- lo convierten en el compositor francés más importante, innovador y genial de su época; en especial, por lo que hace a la música orquestal y la ópera. Proponemos una selección, que no ha sido fácil de realizar, de cuatro "suites ou symphonies à jouer" entre las que se incluyen sus más importantes producciones líricas: el ballet heroico Les Indes galantes (1735), la pastoral heroica Naïs (1748) y las tragedias líricas Zoroastre (1749) y Les Boréades (1764), su última producción. La orquesta de Rameau se une de manera muy íntima a la música vocal para formar conjuntos escénicos y también acoge todas las danzas que gozaban del favor del público en esa mitad del siglo XVIII. En la ópera-ballet, como en la pastoral o la tragedia lírica, la danza poseía una doble función: la de «diversión» escenográfica, sin relación directa con la acción; y la de medio dramático para hacer avanzar la acción o subrayar momentos importantes".- (JORDI SAVALL)
Jean-Philippe Rameau (Dijon, 1683 - París, 1764) fue un compositor, clavecinista y teórico musical francés, muy influyente en la época barroca. Reemplazó a Jean-Baptiste Lully como el compositor dominante de la ópera francesa y fue duramente atacado por aquellos que preferían el estilo de su predecesor.

Rameau was a composer from the Baroque period. The four suites that compose the recording show the main particularities of this composer’s lyrical musical work, congratulations for the choice made. Each one of his works are composed of several movements (in number and type) that vary, from composition to composition. The lyrical harmony is superb, which made it possible to consider Rameau a musician who definitely marked from different form this period, taking an important step in musical evolution. Several times the music relationship with dance is relevant. The orchestra and its direction are amazing. Bravissimo.

Un petit retour à Versailles ne fait pas de mal de temps en temps. Bien que très mal desservi par l'image, le travail accompli par Jordi SAVALL reste remarquable et transcrit à merveille les charmes et l'élégance de ce que fut la musique de Cour au XVIIIème siècle. Mais derrière les majestueuses envolées, on peut retrouver, au gré des fantaisies de l'auteur, l'âme de la musique populaire française issue des campagnes qui assuraient par son labeur infatigable, les fastes de la Monarchie d'Ancien Régime. On peut donc s'interroger à juste raison sur les intentions de Rameau au sujet de ses compositions. A-t-il voulu honorer toutes les classes de la société et même aller jusqu'à rappeler le drame des esclaves africains déportés en Amérique et, en particulier, à Petit Canal en Guadeloupe? L'ensemble est divertissant et rappelle avec bonheur Lully mais également Purcell ou Haydn ainsi que les maîtres italiens de l'époque que Rameau vénérait. Après une telle écoute souvent légère et aérienne, on est prêt à se diriger vers Schoenbrünn pour retrouver Mozart et Beethoven.

Wonderful program of this brilliant composer, once again played superbly by an ensemble of Maestro Savall's. Here, also, a lovely accompaniment to the music is the truly artistic videography, mostly in a surprising soft-focus; very effective in giving us a sense (my opinion) of actually being in the hall, mesmerized. As mentioned, we have in these KZbin videos, in effect, a new, intimate art form for presenting classical music, especially when such near-perfect attention is given to the visual aspect. Thanks to all.

IT WAS PERFECTION FOR THE RICH AND CONNECTED TO THE KING ONLY. FOR THE REST IT WAS SERVITUDE, POVERTY, SLAVERY, WHO NEVER GOT TO HEAR ANY OF THIS MUSIC. IT WAS A PURELY APARTHEID SOCIETY WHOSE POSITION WAS NEVER SECURE AND FULL OF NERVE WRACKING INTRIGUES AND SEXUAL EXCESS, GAMBLING, IDLE TIME WITH NOTHING TO DO BUT GETTING DRESSED UP AND LOOKING GOOD.
