For me, if the road travel distance is 4.5 hours or less, it's easier and more efficient than taking a flight. The airline check-in, security times and walks to the gate, waiting at baggage claim, and flight time easily exceeds 4.5 hours. Disabled or not disabled, this trip appears more relaxing, less stressful and certainly more comfortable than any flight between these two cities. The $99 cost is almost unbelievable! I think this might be the way to travel for distances that are 5-6 hour drives! I'd probably pay more to go this way over purchasing a commercial flight. Marketing/Advertising is going to be the key to making this successful. Attract a couple of frequent flyers from a handful of companies, and get their in-house or corporate travel agents to make this a priority option. There's been decades of talk in the Georgia legislature to put a high-speed rail between Atlanta and Savannah, but this "bus" could easily become the preferred travel method between ATL-SAV.

@@B_Bodziakbuddy if by vehicle it’s 4-5 hours, just invest in trains. This bus can only hold 14 people. An amtrak Acela can move 250+ people and save you 1-2 hours because you don’t have to worry about traffic. You also get more space than an airplane, and more space than with what’s shown with this bus. And it’s not that expensive, from NYC to Boston for example tickets can go as low as 50 bucks for reference. Just support trains it will make everyone’s life easier.

I feel your pain. My first long distance bus trip in North America was 1,642 KM, each way. It was a fully packed Greyhound with broken AC and my seat right next to the bathroom. It was a miserable trip. I refuse to ever take a Greyhound again. I've taken buses in Taiwan numerous times. Their luxury bus line offers large, reclining chairs, personal TVs, power adapters and a decent bathroom. I believe the price for a 4 hour bus ride was about $20-$25 USD. However, it's been many years since I've taken that bus, so the price could be more.

I’m a professional motorcoach operator in the NYC Metro area and drive a Prevost. The bus conversion gets an A+. I wish the unit I drive had those seats! The amenity most requested at my bus is WIFi and we do provide it but it’s nowhere near the speeds of the Jet. This is a great job for a driver who loves greeting passengers with a smile and besides being a truly accomplished operator, takes pride in customer service. I wish the CEO and all the employees, success and may the company grow and set a high standard for others to learn from. Happy and prosperous 2022!

It's always great to offer people different options, based on their preferences and needs. But right now, among all modes of travel, it's those buses that cram 50 passengers into seats, that are the most carbon-friendly to a planet that's in catastrophic condition right now. More travel should, even on these luxury coaches like JET, and other coaches like greyhound, flix, peter pan etc. More travel in these modes, should be encouraged and rewarded.

Great to see a bus with solo seats like this! After I saw the CEO climb on board, I knew the experience would be 10/10. This is clearly designed to appeal to those business travelers who want to avoid an alternative means of public transport and the stress that often accompanies it. I can also imagine this being a better means of travel for couples. This bus interior and exterior look great, too - kudos to the Jet Team.

It seems a great alternative for trains for short range trips in those places where the state don't provide them, I hate to take the airplane and the stress that it comes from the boarding process. A train would be obviously better because is faster and more reliable but when is not available, the bus is way better than a plane and this is a great option at a similar price as first class fast trains

The cheapest option was for us to drive from Manhattan area (well Hoboken, NJ) down to Baltimore, MD and then take the train from there to DC. Parking in Baltimore for three days, the gas there and back and the train tickets easily cost us about $200 each. This would have been awesome to take back then!

Here in Mexico for regional and local travel we always use buses instead of planes and there are a lot of options from premium to very cheap and the best ones are even better than this one in my opinion with bathrooms, coffee station, personal screens like in planes and comfortable sitting, the cheaper ones and specially the ones that go to small towns can be very bad tho.

If you have to get somewhere quick, yeah a cheap ticket (or a very expensive one) on a plane will do, but the way he described this bus ride, it’s worth my time to set up my travel between New York and Washington. I rather get somewhere whether for fun or important on this bus, than deal with a plane, period. That’s how I would spend my time, and my time left on this earth is important to me so if I can make some of that comfortable I will 😂

A flight to DCA to Newark or LaGuardia still requires you to take an Uber or train into Manhattan. And door to door while flying is easily 3 hours minimum. I've taken Acela, which is fine if it's for business, but expensive for personal use. This is a nice alternative.

Planes offer less "in transit" time, but, in my experience, the time you wait getting through security and taxi-ing on the runway winds up being about the same amount of travel time. Also, air travel means you'll most likely need to take a train or bus anyway to get where you are actually going in New York (or pay premium cab fare and sit in traffic for an hour). I prefer trains and driving myself to New York (train if I'm staying in Mahattan, driving if I'm staying in Brooklyn)--but for future vacations in NYC or DC, the Jet may be a game changer.

I just took a trip from Manhattan to Fort Lauderdale, FL back in November. The flight was only $70 each way, and the flight itself was only 2.5 hours but everything else added at least an hour or two to that time. It would either take about an hour and two modes of transportation to get to Newark Airport or a $70 Lyft ride, I chose the latter because it was like 7 am. Getting back was a nightmare: we actually arrived early but the airport (Newark) didn't have space for us yet so we circled around for 20-30 minutes. Tower said the pilot could land, but once landed he found out there was no space at the gate for us...so we sat on the tarmac for about 45 minutes. It then took me about 20 minutes to get my bag from the luggage claim. The rest wasn't the fault of the airline, but it took me about another two or so hours to get from Newark to the Financial District in Manhattan because first no one from Lyft wanted to pick me up, so after 20 minutes I downloaded Uber, and that driver came 15 minutes later, then they had closed the Holland tunnel...on a Friday night. It literally took me longer to get from Newark to my apartment than it did to get from Fort Lauderdale to Newark! It also cost more, that ride cost me $130 because dude originally went to Hoboken, found out the tunnel was closed, then had to go up to Weehawken, and then sit in traffic for about 20 minutes. Our plane landed at about 9 PM, I never go home until like 1 AM...and I was about 20 miles from my apartment.

Acela is the ultimate way to travel between DC and NYC. Picks up and drops off right in the middle of both cities. Takes about 4 hours total. No security means you can show up basically right before the train departs. No worries about traffic. Delays are very rare. All seats are extremely comfortable and spacious. Extremely easy to get work done or just relax for the entirety of the ride. I would say normal trains next, then flying, then bus, then driving on your own.

Old and dirty? The Northeast Corridor’s infrastructure may look deplorable but the Acela’s are fast and fairly modern. Avelia Liberty sets are scheduled to be delivered this year as well.

They've done a great job of thinking about everything, from the hover seats and bathroom, to the handrails. Just adds to the overall comfort. It's great they've spent a high initial investment, but will probably earn that back in satisfied customers coming back and attracting new ones with the really reasonable price.

Back in 2002 when I lived in DC, I used Peter Pan Lines bus from DC to New York for about $35 for the "high class" ticket. The Greyhound lines also was available for around $18, both one way. The Peter Pan Lines buses were really nice, but with cloth seats.

I'm impressed. I've done DC to NY via competitor Vamoose, both regular blue service and high end gold service. I typically pay for Gold service. The Jet appears to be extraordinary. I-95 is probably the worst up by Newark where the bumps are thrilling if you have a camera and want to take photos. I like the idea of motion canceling seats. The bathroom looks great! On a non-Jet bus, using the bathroom is an adventure. On bus vs train vs plane, for the times I've gone to the city, the bus works just fine. Yes there can be traffic issues, but mostly I've not encountered anything bad. All the best to The Jet! They've got my attention.

As someone who regularly has to use buses here in Ireland for similar 4-hour journeys, I'm jealous! The scheduled 3.5 hour cross-country service here usually takes about 5 hours (catching tourists out); its not uncommon for buses to be cancelled without warning, leaving a two-hour wait for the next one, and the buses are usually tired, worn, dirty, and all the curtains were removed years ago to cut costs on cleaning, so you'll have the sun in your face always. This looks so much better!

As the manager of a coach company in UK, I am really intrigued by this. UK has gone for very much the Megabus/ National Express 'cattle class' buses and the fares reflect that. I have long argued there is an argument for a premium service here; maybe I shall take this video to the Board of Directors and suggest we look at how our American colleagues operate this. (I might even get our Directors to pay for a 'holiday' to New York to try it myself). Excellent series of videos, Mr Brooks, Sir. The Cali-Zephyr and another rail video that I can't find at the moment- they are really good and inspiring for a future trip to travel around USA.

It could also be competitive as rail prices in the UK are utter madness. Try getting a ticket from London Euston to Birmingham New Street in first/standard premium class for a decent price. God forbid you want to travel to the north of England from the capital. I would be happy to pay a premium but it depends on the execution of the service as well as the amount of seating.

Very nice, the only thing I would recommend would be some type of separation between passengers. Perhaps some seat-high rounded walls, so you don’t see others directly when you’re seated. It would give it that upscale 1st class jetliner feel.

@Chill Will No-one said anything of the sort. But I think this particular threads' OP have an unfounded fear of wear on the buses. They're built on a Volvo chassis, one of the most tried and tested in the world. The interior looked robust, and I think the price is competitive. The Amtrak first class ticket is $30 more, and further down in the thread someone say it isn't even that good. My objection would rather be: A full size bus, and two personnel, for only fourteen passengers? But it's still way better than fourteen cars, with only one person in them, going the same way. And in COVID-times it's better with fifteen other people, than a full bus or train.

Having taken megabus numerous times on that route, I ve always found it just fine. Good wifi, relatively on- time, and the busses were comfortable, especially on the top deck. Plus, the faresI paid were less then the tolls if I drove. Busses were fairly empty, too.

Being based in Baltimore, I've done the NYC trip numerous times - either driving or taking the train. The Jet makes me consider their option. With the drive time to the airport, time to check-in, security, etc and then travel into the city from EWR, JFK or LGA, I can't imagine that the hassle from DC/Baltimore is worth it. Your video tempts me to train down to DC just to catch The Jet to NYC! And BTW, did you ever put the camera down the entire drive up? Great footage the whole way!

I live in NYC and have driven to/from Baltimore/DC at least 20 times. Why anyone flies this is beyond me (unless they're getting on/coming from a connecting flight). Downtown to downtown train is faster and cheaper than flying, and door to door when you're not going to or coming from the heart of the city, driving is faster and cheaper. I'd only ever fly to DC from NYC if I lived near LGA - it's a small airport and you get to the gate quickly.

I've taken the Mega Bus from NYC to DC twice. The Jet here looks like a treat. The biggest problem with any road based transportation is the traffic and delays. I do feel sorry for those people on the Mega that looked disabled. For myself it's much easier and less of a hassle to go to Penn station and take either the North East Corridor train or the Acela. The Jet though would be a treat to try.

Yep , you see lots. I used to drive National Express coaches here in the UK in my 20`s. I later joined the ambulance service and did paramedic training and went on to save lives, but, for me , looking back my proudest time for me was driving a large coach full of people which trumped my ambulance time strangely.

Finally, the US is catching up with technologies and the conveniences other countries had already enjoyed for decades. More than 20 years ago I was so surprised to travel in a luxurious bus (like this one) with food and drinks (wine optional) served by a hostess while traveling through some places in central Mexico, individual television screens and optional privacy with well-appointed curtains were a great advantage since some of the trips were for more than 4 hours (nice to be able to travel comfortably flat on your back). I even traveled in one that was two stories and had an incredible view of the breathtaking mountains that we traversed. But, best of all, only a few hundred pesos per trip, which translated into only a few dollars for me (the cost of a taxi ride in NYC any day). I am very happy to be able to travel our country with the comfort and convenience that other countries have already enjoyed for decades. Thank you for sharing the good news. Cheers

They too are a large country with cities that are far apart. It's only different down there because they are still basically a 3rd world country with a big drug war going on. Most of those buses get business mainly because the typical citizen of Mexico cannot afford a plane trip. If they were a G7 country like us, very few of those buses would still run. I certainly hope that one day they will be a G7 country. Anyway as the video uploader explained, those shock absorbing seats are unique to that company. The Mexican buses don't have those seats. :) And Greyhound is pretty good too. :)

I tried Grey Hound out of Padecu, man I was shocked at the leather seats, LCD TV. Ride was great. 4 hours is not bad for Washington to New York, with a bar and nice seats like that, plus not having to push and crawl your way to a seat. That bus is well worth it.

Once, for work reasons, I spoke to the Omnibus de México office manager on the Autobuses del Norte terminal, and he clearly stated that their direct competition were not the other bus lines, but airlines.

Definitely the advantage this bus and rail offer over flying is that you could work uninterrupted for a few hours compared to flying. When flying, you can only work in pieces (lounge and airplane) and lots of time is lost just in going to/from the airport.

I used to prefer the long-distance bus home every weekend when doing an MBA for the same reason: a large block of uninterrupted reading time.

I’m watching this video cuz i spotted The Jet a few days ago in DC. I have to say that this is a very good contender. Since we’re strapped for time we make use of the time we have that we have given, in this case, purchased for. If I can travel comfortably and with ample amount of room to be able to work and stretch out, then I’m on board.

Very cool! As a Washingtonian who is planning a trip to NYC, most likely via MegaBus, I will definitely look into booking The Jet. I personally hate driving to NY and love bus rides so doing it in style and less bumpy is A+ to me.

I’m sorry but not understanding all the excitement I see in the comment section way over priced & not needed. 100 dollars? Yet it still takes you 4 hours? Mega bus is just as spacious, comfortable, has wi-fi and only cost $30. Inside is literally no different then any other travel bus it just looks fancy. Waste of money imo

Not sure if you have ever traveled north, hell or south for the matter, on I95 but it can be very bumpy and MegaBus is no where near as spacious or seats as comfortable as this bus looks to be. I also don’t expect it to have a jet pack strapped to it so four hours of reading and writing is wonderful to me. MegaBus is a regular charter bus anyway with 40-50+ seats and during this time of Covid, I’d rather be as spaced out from others as possible. If you want to get real practical, you could simply purchase a ticket on the China Town bus to NYC so why even take MegaBus or Bolt which is more expensive. It’s done for the luxuries provided on them. Like I stated, I enjoy experiences and have no problem paying $100 to try something new and a bit more luxe. But to each their own, right?

Hi Jeb, I took a bus New York - Washington D.C. - New York, back in Sept 2019 during my stay in US. While checking among all possible means of transport I opted for Greyhound connection. It was not the cheapest but with the most suitable schedule (plenty of buses a day) and as well the travel time (non-stop service) was pretty convenient.

Kudos to the CEO and the company for starting off great in this video. I hope they success in this idea, which personally I like as there are no luxury "trains" in the US. Interesting idea in regards to the chair spring isolation system. However, I think its in a long way to make it truly into a first class Bus in my opinion, especially when comparing some stuff that Mercedes-Benz Premium and Business Bus offer or/and plan to offer. Personally, what I would recommend as an engineer is to do the following: -Make it double decker: is very convenient as they can add lounges, bars, and more amenities with better quality services. Imagine having the top area a lounge area, with a nice bar, and a panoramic ceiling so you could enjoy your view, while you can sleep in your chair the lower area. Or the top area is your, kitchen. Either way, its a great uses of space.

I am just wondering how much the height of the bus will change and how that will effect manoeuvrability and stability because it is a coach and coaches can be quite tall even if they are only a single decker bus also if it was to become a double decker coach I think it would be best to have the seats on the top floor and have a lounge/Cafe on the bottom floor
