Jebel Shams means “Mountain of sun” is a mountain located in northeastern Oman north of Al Hamra town. It is the highest mountain in the country. The mountain situated around 10000 ft above sea level is a popular sightseeing area which famous for stargazing with view of star studded night sky since it is far from air pollution and light pollution. It is located 240 kms from Muscat. In the summer, temperature is around 20 °C (68 °F) and in the winter it drops to less than 0 °C (32 °F) with an average winter temperature of 5 °C.
We have planned a really quick trip after coming to know that meteor shower is expected to be visible in Oman at coming midnight. We decided to pack our bags and go to Jebel shams since it’s the best place to watch night sky. We stayed at Sama Heights Resort.
