www.acrylicuniversity.com I welcome you to come to our site and look around. If I can say so myself, I believe it to be the most comprehensive acrylic painting platform in the world.

Hello, I’m so glad I found your channel. I struggle with coloring mixing and acrylics all the time. You’ve encouraged me to try a different approach to the whole process. I don’t paint quickly, often loosing my focus and original idea. Keeping the light source and shadows in perspective eludes me. My darks and lights never pop. I like your paintings, they are inspiring. Thank you for encouraging the world to paint with your no nonsense approach. “Just keep working on it.” “Change what you don’t like”. ✌🏽 ☮️.

Thank you Jed! What a great idea to create mixing colors papers. It seems to me that for acrylics it's more useful than for oils. I did for certain colors, like green, etc. But for three is going to be so helpful.

I was trying to find a video about painting figurines with acrylic but stumbled across this. I just learned sooooo much. I just spent a small fortune in colors and was about to buy more. There a lot of information here. And in insulted to try a painting! Why not? I'm already a Crafter. Maybe painting could be what I've been missing.

A friend of mine like a mentor of mine from when I was drawing with pencils told mr to try using colors, soft pastel to start which i was afraid to try but like he said it's easier and a lot more fun.he was right and from there ai did sketches with soft pastels and colored pencils and now with markers and mixing them altogether. Today that same mentor came by just to tell me to start painting and referred me here, this is the 1st video I'm watching how to get started with acrylic paint, liked and subscribed 🙏 I'm excited with this new journey

Hi Jed, thanks SO much for this! Do you have a video that shows you color mixing ? Even that seems daunting to a newbie like me
@JedDorsey Жыл бұрын
Hi Joanie, great question - I will try to put something out here that is specific to that. As it is, the best videos I would recommend would be to look at some of our live sessions - Friday Night Live included - and simply watch the way I mix color. While it is not a direct lesson, I think you could find it informative. But I will also work on the idea of putting out another video specific to color mixing :-)

Hi Jed! Thank you so much for 1) sharing your faith, it's the reason I stayed here,2) for being open and blunt. Q: I really would like to learn in a more straightforward brush stroke manner, a more realistic manner I suppose. Is this more complicated than the method you use? Do you have advice on how to develop that other than practice? Thank you for your help and time. God Bless
@JedDorsey Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your encouragement! I believe if you keep refining - basically keep working on form and the smaller nuances, it is just taking a painting past where I take it. You might use smaller brushes, work on the details more. I'm not sure if that's the most complete answer, but if I understand your question correctly, that's what I would say. The principles are the same with how I paint, but you would just take the process further to create a more detailed painting...

I have a question about the design. Do you mean the image you are going off of and understanding of values of color? What if I am not a great drawer? Does it matter if I am working from a photo I took that I try to draw it out first? Is that the design? Guess I am looking for clarification on what you mean by design. Thanks for the video.
@JedDorsey Жыл бұрын
Hi Heidi, great question - I'll try to clarify. Sometimes a reference photo makes a great design as it is. But, more often than not, the design can be improved to create a better painting. So, I like to do several small thumbnail sketches of the scene and change a few of the elements to see which design is the most compelling. If you go to AcrylicUniversity.com you will find a free course called "How to Paint Anything in 5 Steps" that goes into more detail about the whole process - hope that is helpful! :-)
