I absolutely love this scene, for most of the game Kyle is quippy and sarcastic, like a typical Han Solo character, but this scene makes you realize that in all of that he has a pent-up rage and deep-seated anger, makes the character very 3-dimensional

"I'm not brave enough to die" That line still sticks with me. The writing team was so clever for that. Kyle can feel that line in his soul.. she isn't true evil...she is just terrified looking for strength in her master. Kyle meanwhile Kyle doesn't fear death at all. Only failing those he can protect..and her.. Love is a path to the dark side, for sure, but Luke understands it can also be what keeps you from falling to it.

If I were to rewrite the scene in which after Tavion is defeated by Kyle Katarn. Instead of Kyle force-gripping her and threatening drop her off the ledge, He would use the force to immobleize her. He would activate his lightsaber and come very close to delivering her a same slow painful death as she supposibly did Jan. She pleads for him to spare her life in exchange in confessing that she pretended to kill Ors to trick Katarn into revealing the Valley of the Jedi. He shuts off his saber and releases the dark jedi, Then tells her to leave before her master finds her.

Tavion is actually a pretty good character in this game, and a tougher boss than in Academy.

I was playing around with cheats when i was young and the cutscene got bugged. He just dropped her in the middle of when she was talking and you could hear her death voiceline when npcs falls to their death. It was really hilarious and i tried to recreate it for a long time.

Their chivalry and restraint while worthy a praise, could be sometimes really annoying. Killing Tavion would spare everybody the whole Jedi Academy drama, or perhaps somebody else would step in to the top of pecking order. Jedi don't like killing defeated, defenceless enemies. Windu did try to play it smart and kill Palpatine, kinda breaking that rule and it came to bite him in ass really quickly.

Tavion is the exact opposite of Yun from Dark Forces 2. When Yun lost to Katarn he accepted his fate and asked to be killed. Kyle spared him and then Yun continued to serve his master but eventually joined the light side moments before dying. Tavion begged for her life, abandoned her master and never change her ways, becoming even worse than she was here.

It would have been quite excellent if... as they did for jedi Academy... you can turn to the dark side by killing Tavion. And when you find Jan Ors, she doesn't recognize Kyle... The drama there would have been quite interesting.

Interesting to note that every other game in the series had a possible 2nd ending. Dark Forces had one ending, Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight has 2 endings (dark side), Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast had one ending and finally Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy had 2 as well
