I use Pietta revolvers when im cowboying it, 2 sets in 38/357, and one set in 44mag. The 44s have the transfer bar in them, and if you don't have the cylinder pin in right the bar catches under the firing pin and locks the gun up till you pop the bar back.

My primary revolvers are a pair of Traditions 1873 Rawhides. They're made by Pietra, and may be basically the same as those Piettas you were shooting, although much more basic, and not slicked up any. I found them on Classic Firearms for just over $200 each, and intended to just have them as backups for my Uberti Outlaws. But they just seemed so much smoother, and have been much more reliable than the Ubertis. The rawhide edition is just done with a basic matte finish. I rather like the look. I have to say, those octagon barrels on your revolvers are pretty sweet. They look great with the brass trigger guard and the wood grips.

My apologies for the late response. Just recently found your channel. Fun stuff! A few months ago, I bought an EMF Great Western II Alchemista IV in 45 Colt. Delightful weapon! Great action by the Pietta factory, and remarkable accuracy. It has, among my other 45 SAA pistols, become a favorite of mine. I don't shoot Cowboy Action, but shoot wild hogs and coyote that run my woods where I live. The Alchemista IV is devastating against 300# plus hogs! It's now my "go to" weapon against these things that lurk in the woods outside mt home. Anyway, I like what I've seen seen here, and subscribed to your channel, in hope of more of your videos.

I really like the 73 grip when shooting a sixgun which from what I recall is based on the '51. The combo of 1860 army grip and 1851 style ogtagonal barrel on a gun known for having a more 1851 style grip seems weird... but I like it! These revolvers are fkn cool i know that they (meaning firearm manufacturers) make lever action rifles with octagon barrels, perfect to pair with these beauties
@JEDiTV2 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed! I paired mine up with an 1873 rifle, in 44/40 with an 18” octagon barrel. (Okay, 18.5…)

Dose any cowboy action shooters shoot scholfields by any chance? I ain’t old enough to buy till of may this year my dad can’t buy them cause he’s a felon so it depends on me really.

Yes, a pard I used to shot with, Varmit was his name, used a Schofield regularly. I’m sure there is video of him using it on this channel (can’t point you to the exact one though). I’ve got a pair but I don’t shoot ‘em too often. -Jed 🤠

pietta is a good cheap gun but the only problem i have is it failed the 3x pressure test from colt ubirty passed and got the contract to build black powder guns for colt then colt smooth up the action and gets them to shoot straight out the barrel after they do the 3x pressure test then it gets the colts name they also got the pattens to make reproduction colts that is y u can use ubirty parts to fix original colts . i watched a video of it from colt the reason ubirty passed the test is because they use a higher quality metals and to do the test they used modern powders to get the pressure on the test . so u know i had to do the test on my ubirty 1858 remington with a 44 mag full charge worked just fine so sometimes i mix the powders and it shoots good. i do own a few piettas but i will never use nothing but black powder in them

I wasn’t aware of this information… but, I pretty much use only black powder in mine anyways.

Great review! By the way, are these traditional (load 5, rest on empty chamber) or do they feature modern transfer bar safeties? Sorry if it was mentioned and I just missed it!
@JEDiTV4 жыл бұрын
Howdy, I probably should have covered this in the episode, they are traditional style with the actual firing pin on the hammer. No transfer bar. ~Jed 🤠

are these revolvers available in 5.5in or 7.5in barrel lengths? I’ve been wanting a Revolver with a 7.5in barrel. My Dad would like the 5.5in. also they are available in 45 colt right?
@JEDiTV4 жыл бұрын
The “SASS” Ruger Vaquero is available in 2 configurations: 5.5” .45 Colt and 4.75” .357. The “standard” Ruger Vaquero is available in many different configuration, including those you’re looking for. Hope that info helps. ~Jed
@thelaborpeasant4 жыл бұрын
How would you compare them to the SASS Vaqueros? Also, damn you can run that shotgun xD
@JEDiTV4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I, personally, would say they are very comparable. I, again, personally, prefer the Colt Clones 🤷♂️ Both are going to run great and hold up in the sport. The Rugers might be a bit tougher... maybe. I did find these Great Westerns MUCH smoother than my Rugers right outta the box. I think the Rugers will have to have quite a bit of work to get to the smooth, crisp action of these Piettas. But, they can certainly be made to be as smooth or smoother. That didn’t help much. If it’s possible for you, try ‘em both. See what fits and feels best in your hands. Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my shotgun work. I make up a lot of time with that particular piece. If you watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iajTpKSFhcenppI you can see me put it to use at the Team Match at the end. It was a pretty darn cool moment. ~Jed 🤠

What's the name of the song at the beginning of the video? I've heard it before and can't think of the name. Any help would be appreciated!
@JEDiTV9 ай бұрын
It is a song called “Lonesome Avenue” (a free song that is available to creators in the KZbin library - to use without concerns about getting a copyright strike). You may have heard it used on another channel or on one of my other videos. OR… you could be, like me, thinking that it reminds you of “5th Avenue Heartbreak” by the Wallflowers. The melody is very, very similar. Funny thing is when I “Shazamed” it I was given this “Now That I Know You” song by a Jan Boyle. It appears that she took that copyright fee “Lonesome Avenue” and put some lyrics over it… Honestly, I can’t recommend her “version” of the song. But, as an instrumental I quite enjoy it. (Oh, and I like “5th Avenue Heartbreak” too 🤠) Hope that helps with your “ear-worm”.
@moonshinerphd95239 ай бұрын
@@JEDiTV Thanks Jed, You're right it was the Wallflowers, I knew it had some lyrics in the song but I couldn't think of them right off hand. I reckon it comes with age, or so they say. Great shootin' by the way, I enjoy watching your videos. Oh yeah, you've got that "time machine" set up nice!
