Bringing up a video from the dead just because I was in the market for them, but I found the Cimarron El Malo 2 to be far smoother. Cimarron worked their magic on them and changed the name.

You hit on the head - if historical accuracy was required then Vaqueros would not be so popular. It took 132 Years for someone to make something that actually competed with the 1873. They are beauties. They are worthy of engraving!

I own 16 six guns both cartridge and cap n ball. All but one is Uberti one is Pietta. Since Uberti ruined the cattlemen ll with that stupid floating firing pin and weird trigger I'm buying Pietta now. As for grips I by far prefer the 1860 Army grips and use 1860 Army cartridge conversions in 44 colt for CAS.

I use Pietta revolvers when im cowboying it, 2 sets in 38/357, and one set in 44mag. The 44s have the transfer bar in them, and if you don't have the cylinder pin in right the bar catches under the firing pin and locks the gun up till you pop the bar back.

My primary revolvers are a pair of Traditions 1873 Rawhides. They're made by Pietra, and may be basically the same as those Piettas you were shooting, although much more basic, and not slicked up any. I found them on Classic Firearms for just over $200 each, and intended to just have them as backups for my Uberti Outlaws. But they just seemed so much smoother, and have been much more reliable than the Ubertis. The rawhide edition is just done with a basic matte finish. I rather like the look. I have to say, those octagon barrels on your revolvers are pretty sweet. They look great with the brass trigger guard and the wood grips.
@JEDiTV
@JEDiTV 4 жыл бұрын
I like that Matte look too. Back when I first started Uberti made a pair like that, matte black with brass back strap and trigger guard they were sold at Cabela’s and called “Millenniums”. ~Jed 🤠

My apologies for the late response. Just recently found your channel. Fun stuff! A few months ago, I bought an EMF Great Western II Alchemista IV in 45 Colt. Delightful weapon! Great action by the Pietta factory, and remarkable accuracy. It has, among my other 45 SAA pistols, become a favorite of mine. I don't shoot Cowboy Action, but shoot wild hogs and coyote that run my woods where I live. The Alchemista IV is devastating against 300# plus hogs! It's now my "go to" weapon against these things that lurk in the woods outside mt home. Anyway, I like what I've seen seen here, and subscribed to your channel, in hope of more of your videos.

I remember I got my period incorrect Thompson New Englander .54 with it round barrel. Took it to the range and shot some round ball and heavy conicals. Was it a kick in the pants. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. When done I put the gun in the trunk. Later that day I got into the car and did it stink. Hoo hoo boy! Next time I cleaned it at the range. Really easy to clean with a special kit from Dixie attached to a nipple and tube with cleaning fluid in a can. Just pump the cleaning rod a done. No muss, no fuss.

Gorgeous guns. I appreciate that you are shooting two handed, I've tried shooting with my off hand and never do well lol. I love the octagonal look on the orig. 1851 navy. also love the look of a traditional 1873 so... not sure how I feel about these. I really like the 73 grip when shooting a sixgun which from what I recall is based on the '51. The combo of 1860 army grip and 1851 style ogtagonal barrel on a gun known for having a more 1851 style grip seems weird... but I like it! Don't know if I'd like shooting one, but I def. like the look! These may be a-historical yet they are undoubtedly nice looking revolvers and a combo I never thought I'd see, wow are they cool!

Hi Jedd, thanks for your awesome video. Always had an interest in this sport and shot my first match last week up here in Canada by invitation of a long time Sass member and shooter. I have my eye on a set of these revolvers to enter this sport since they are great quality yet affordable guns (more so then the sass vaqueros) for a starting cowboy action shooter and absolutely beautiful to boot. If you find any of my episodes featuring Col. Cornelius or Varmit they both often use two different revolvers. In fact, Varmit always shoots a Schofield and a ‘75 Remington. It looks very cool. ~Jed 🤠

I have a pair of Cimarron Eleminator 8s in 45 Colt that are basically the same guns except nicer grips and short stroked. They are fun to shoot but I don't feel the benefits of short stroke or 60 grip frame.

Howdy Graham, I’d recommend looking for something used. I prefer the ‘66 or ‘73 Models from Uberti, I like the looks of the ‘66 better but I feel the ‘73 can be run a little faster. The Marlins are great also! But, all of ‘em are getting harder to find at that sub-1000 price point. -Jed 🤠

hehe......Breath of the Wild! :-) I'd actually like to get one of these revolvers. I like unique revolvers. Don't have very many at the moment. Just a 1958 Ruger Single Six [still the 4 click, unmolested action], a Ruger Shopkeeper [blued with fluted cylinder], and my newest acquisition, a Taylors 1851 Snub nose, birdshead, in 44cal., which I probably won't ever actually shoot in black powder.

Yes I do. My thoughts / opinions about these haven’t changed. However, they are probably my least fired set of CAS revolvers. Just because I prefer my 1851’s and, if I wanna shoot something that is a little faster, my SASS Rugers. But, I do get ‘em out and exercise ‘em occasionally and they still function and perform as they did when new.

pietta is a good cheap gun but the only problem i have is it failed the 3x pressure test from colt ubirty passed and got the contract to build black powder guns for colt then colt smooth up the action and gets them to shoot straight out the barrel after they do the 3x pressure test then it gets the colts name they also got the pattens to make reproduction colts that is y u can use ubirty parts to fix original colts . i watched a video of it from colt the reason ubirty passed the test is because they use a higher quality metals and to do the test they used modern powders to get the pressure on the test . so u know i had to do the test on my ubirty 1858 remington with a 44 mag full charge worked just fine so sometimes i mix the powders and it shoots good. i do own a few piettas but i will never use nothing but black powder in them

How would you compare them to the SASS Vaqueros? Also, damn you can run that shotgun xD
@JEDiTV
@JEDiTV 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I, personally, would say they are very comparable. I, again, personally, prefer the Colt Clones 🤷‍♂️ Both are going to run great and hold up in the sport. The Rugers might be a bit tougher... maybe. I did find these Great Westerns MUCH smoother than my Rugers right outta the box. I think the Rugers will have to have quite a bit of work to get to the smooth, crisp action of these Piettas. But, they can certainly be made to be as smooth or smoother. That didn’t help much. If it’s possible for you, try ‘em both. See what fits and feels best in your hands. Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my shotgun work. I make up a lot of time with that particular piece. If you watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iajTpKSFhcenppI you can see me put it to use at the Team Match at the end. It was a pretty darn cool moment. ~Jed 🤠

@JEDiTV
@JEDiTV 9 ай бұрын
It is a song called “Lonesome Avenue” (a free song that is available to creators in the KZbin library - to use without concerns about getting a copyright strike). You may have heard it used on another channel or on one of my other videos. OR… you could be, like me, thinking that it reminds you of “5th Avenue Heartbreak” by the Wallflowers. The melody is very, very similar. Funny thing is when I “Shazamed” it I was given this “Now That I Know You” song by a Jan Boyle. It appears that she took that copyright fee “Lonesome Avenue” and put some lyrics over it… Honestly, I can’t recommend her “version” of the song. But, as an instrumental I quite enjoy it. (Oh, and I like “5th Avenue Heartbreak” too 🤠) Hope that helps with your “ear-worm”.
