Observ 1 : 2:15:31 / 3:43:47 Observ 2 : 2:34:13 / 3:43:47 --------------------------- Curiousity popped in my mind during lec : why determinant is only for square matrix ??? The reason determinants are defined only for square matrices is primarily related to the geometric interpretation of determinants and their role in linear transformations and systems of linear equations. One reason is that the determinant can be thought of as a measure of the scaling factor of a linear transformation. A linear transformation is a mapping from one vector space to another, and a square matrix represents a linear transformation from a vector space to itself. For example, in 2D space, the determinant of a 2x2 matrix represents the scaling factor by which the area of a shape is stretched or compressed when it is transformed by that matrix. In 3D space, the determinant of a 3x3 matrix represents the scaling factor for volume changes. If we have a non-square matrix, it represents a linear transformation from one vector space to another vector space with a different number of dimensions. For example, a 2x3 matrix…….What would the determinant of this matrix represent? We could think of it as the ratio of the volume of the image of a unit cube under the linear transformation represented by A to the volume of the original cube. But this ratio is meaningless, because the image of a unit cube under a 2x3 matrix is not a cube! It is a parallelogram in four dimensions. . In this case, it doesn't make sense to talk about a scaling factor, because we are comparing the volumes of objects in different dimensions. Determinants are used to determine whether a system of linear equations has a unique solution, no solution, or infinitely many solutions. determinants are used to check if a square matrix is invertible (i.e., it has an inverse matrix). If determinants were defined for non-square matrices, the geometric and algebraic interpretations of determinants would not align with the fundamental properties they possess in the context of linear algebra. Therefore, it is not possible to define the determinant of a non-square matrix in a way that is consistent with the geometric and algebraic properties of the determinant for square matrices. One last important note is that the determinant only makes sense for square matrices. That's because square matrices move vectors from ‍ -dimensional space to ‍ -dimensional space, so we can talk about volume changing. CREDIT : QUORA --------------------------- observ 3 : 2:45:37 / 3:43:47 Cauchy Generalization: 2:55:34 / 3:43:4 ----------------- About Cauchy : Augustin-Louis Cauchy Baron ( 21 August 1789 - 23 May 1857) was a French mathematician, engineer, and physicist. He was one of the first to rigorously state and prove the key theorems of calculus (thereby creating real analysis), pioneered the field complex analysis, and the study of permutation groups in abstract algebra. Cauchy also contributed to a number of topics in mathematical physics, notably continuum mechanics. "More concepts and theorems have been named for Cauchy than for any other mathematician (in elasticity alone there are sixteen concepts and theorems named for Cauchy). He was the first to proved Taylor Series and have some significant contribun in calculus and practical engineering. Cauchy was a prolific worker; he wrote approximately eight hundred research articles and five complete textbooks on a variety of topics in the fields of mathematics and mathematical physics. If u see his image on google he appears like vladmir putin ( president of russia ) seriously 😆 😆. ------------------------- obsv 4 : 3:12:21 / 3:43:47 obsv 5 : 3:23:56 / 3:43:47 WOW Moment Take screenshot : 3:29:06 / 3:43:47 Obsv 6^ : WOW Moment Take screenshot : 3:34:18 / 3:43:47 obsvn 7 : 3:38:12 / 3:43:47 EPIC MOMENT SCREENSHOT MUST HAI : 3:40:46 / 3:43:47 -------------- Finally, done with the lecture I have studied this ch. but, was not satisfied why all these things are happening for which purposes so many quesn in mind and also rem. the whole property despite question was out of my reach but, now it's time to take the control all credit goes to MU. It's the beginning of Linear Algebra. -----> linear algebra, mathematical discipline that deals with vectors and matrices and, more generally, with vector spaces and linear transformations. P.S - Anyone at any time reading this comment and watching this epic masterpiece on determinat u can used these observn to make notes or for revison + I have included some general facts only bcoz of curiousity came during lec 🔥 🔥. Bhaiya bhot mast session tha.mai dropper hu aur maine ye chapter bhot baar padh rkha hai but aaj tak kisi ne bhi ye explanation nhi di ki ye determinants ka origin kaha se hua,sab bta dete hai ki ye determinant hota hai and ye uski properties but aaj pehli baar pta lga ki determinants aise aye the.yehi chiz hai jo aapko baaki sab se different bnati hai.aap jaise padhate ho vaise hi actual mai kisi bi subject ko padhana chaiye but sab aajkal bas typewise questions kara ke ratta dete hai ki agar is type ka problem aye toh isko aise solve krna jis wajah se subject ki kabi feel hi nhi aati toh usse pdhne ka bi man nhi krta.thank you for teaching in this way woh bi ek "crash course" mai ❤❤

Sir mujhe doubt tha 1:47:00 se dekhe toh aapnne samjhaya hai determinant ke andar change kr dene - ajata hai toh for example koi system of linear eqn hai Q1. x+y+z=1 2x+y+z=2 3x+2y+z=3 Q2. x+y+z=1 3x+2y+z=3 2x+y+z=2 order change krke qn agar dede toh pehle wale ka det(Q1)= X maan le toh det(Q2)= -X ajayega toh x(Q1) = something/X and x(Q2)= something/-X par agar dono system same hai toh dono x bhi same hona chahiye par ek me minus ajara hai niche ek me nhi fir kuch gadbad nhi hoga?

To expand a 3×3 determinant, there are 6 ways. To expand a 4×4 determinant, there are 48 ways. To expand a 5×5 determinant, there are 480 ways. To expand a 6×6 determinant, there are 5760 ways. Mtlb if there are m ways to expand a n×n determinant, then there are 2(n+1)m ways to expand (n+1)×(n+1) determinant. Karke dekh lo analyse, reason apne aap samajh aa jayega.
