I used your video and replaced the distributor in my TJ just now without any issues. Thank you.

Had the exact issue and fixed it the same way. Good video. Mine had a little keeper plate that went over the base of the distributor that that same bolt held.

What size bolt is it? I’m having no spark on mine and I tried a half inch wrench and it just cams out when I use the open end of the wrench

Thanks for the real world view of how to do the job. I’ll be copying your method. Hope I remember the gasket. Well done. Thanks from down under South Australia.

Im sure you can mark different positions, but i always have put no.1 piston on top dead pointed to number 1 plug wire and it the distributor falls in much easier.I have did it like you but the dist. just dont always want to drop in so freely even if its in the right spot.Whatever work,love the video

Thanks for the video. I sat there for 30 minutes taking it in and out and turning the oil pump with a screwdriver because every time I put the distributor in, it would be a hair past my mark. We’ll I said screw it, cranked it up, and it ran good so maybe it’s just the new gear and less slop? First time ever changing a distributor.

Could I know please, for my 1998 jeep wrangler is cranked but no ignition, no voltage gauge showing? I replaced the distribution pickup coil, camshaft sensor, and ignition coil but still same. Thanks.

Sounds like you may have a broken wire somewhere. Electrical issues are a real pain.

It's not a hard fix. You might want to check the crankcase sensor also. An even easier fix.

My husband replaced the distributed and now my jeep won’t start. I’m thinking about doing it myself. Online it says fixing a cap? Is easy. But I don’t know anything about cars.
@onmission3162 жыл бұрын
If you tried and it won't start you will have to do the traditional way by putting cylinder one in dead top position and putting the distributor in the #1 firing position. There are some good KZbin videos showing the details of that method. It's not hard but ut will go better with two people.

Hey I have a question that I thought you may be able to help me with. So I have two tj’s. One with a distributor (99) and one with a coil rail (01). I know the spark advance is set by the pcm, but reading the spark advance with a scan tool the Jeeps read two different results. At idle the 01 reads around 8-11 with little dips below and above, And the 99 reads around 14-17.5 with dips above and below. Is this normal for the distributor 4.0’s to have that spark advance at idle? I can’t find any vacuum leaks anywhere and since you can’t adjust the timing I can’t find any spec info on it. It’s been driving me nuts!!

I have no idea but would recommend joining the Jeep Wrangler Group on Facebook and posing the question. You will get an answer. 3.8k members with all kinds of knowledge.

Great video. I've been troubleshooting what sounds like a very same issue with my 98 TJ. Looks like I'll be looking at the crankshaft position sensor now. When yours would misfire did it seem to do it more when the engine cold or at normal operating temps?
@onmission3162 жыл бұрын
Normal temp mostly.

@@onmission316 what I mean is.. can you just pull the old part out and just put the new distributor in? What was the reason of starting it?. I want to replace mine on my old jeep but I'm seeing some people dont mark anything then some people do.. I'm confuse.
@onmission3163 жыл бұрын
@@ujayet I saw the same thing. You don't have to do the top compression stroke as many suggest, but you do have to put it back in the exact way it came out. I moved the distributor (bumped the starter) until it was in a position where the rotor pointed in a direction that was easy to identify and mark with tape on the block. Hope that makes sense.
