Just some other small differences. The 1997-1999 had distributor caps and plug wires, the 2000-2001 had coil packs. Also the 1997 roof rack length when over the front driver and passenger sides of the vehicle, in mid 1998-2001 the roof racks length shorten.

The ignition system and roof rails do not pertain to the amount of doors The roof rails are longer on 97 and 98, it's 99-01 that have the shorter ones

Same. The 2 doors were cheaper than the 4 doors so they tend to be base model more often in my experience.

Yes, some side vents really tend to fall off if you are not careful with the pressure washer and spray between car body and their sides! They are held onto the car body with just two screws into plastic mounts, which easily break.

Is there much more legroom in the back seats of the 4 door? Also are there car seat anchor points in the 2 door?

The insides are the exact same, there is only more legroom if the front seats are moved forward. I could be wrong but I don't think there are car seat anchors in either one, I don't have a sibling/ child young enough. However, I know a handful of car seats can be anchored with just the seat belt. If you feel safe doing that, I would recommend the 4 door because it'll be 10× easier to get the child in and out of the backseat. Just remember that XJs are not exactly known for their safety ratings, all you really have is an airbag for the driver and front passenger, plus some seatbelts. They are tough vehicles and don't really crumple upon impact Legroom in the backseat is pretty much non existent for either variant. I am 5'10" and to sit comfortable in the back, the front seat has to be all the way forward, which then cramps the front passenger.

XJ is the abbreviation used for the 1984-2001 Jeep Cherokees. Althought the vehicle was redesigned in 1997, all of them are still considered XJs if they're from the previously listed model years. The boxy body style, square headlights, and 4.0L engine are all signs of an XJ - they look like the ones in this video. From 2002-2007, the Jeep Cherokee was replaced by the Jeep Liberty, abbreviated KJ. In countries other than the United States and Canadia, these Liberty's are also called Cherokees, but are not XJs. From 2008-2012, the Jeep Liberty had a second generation, abbreviated KK. A modern Cherokee's 2 letter abbreviation is KL or something, from model years 2013-2020. I don't know anything about these newer Cherokees other than they're certainly not as good as the old ones.

It is the same, it's just easier to put stuff in the 4 door because there are more access ports to put stuff in and get stuff out.

@@WAEMIDIV get 2 doors well 4 cause i want some summer cutaways and the 2 door looks great with the rails or half doors .. then move the post back mount the doors and for the rear i can quarter it off the 2 door or fab off a minivan and have metal..that leaves the 4 door shorty window. ...its a box so it is easy..

Hey im planing to buy a 2 door 98. Im wondering if i can fit a bed platform in the back. do you know the length from the trunk to the front seats when they are folded and forward? Appreciate if you can tell me

From the lift gate to the back seat folded forward you have just under 5'. You can remove the cusion bottom of the back seat with no tools to gain an additional half foot or so You can also fold the front seats forward for a little more room, but I'm not sure if a bed will fit back there. These dimensions are exactly the same for 2 door or 4 door. People do sleep in these but it's not exactly comfortable or ideal. I've slept in my XJ before by just leaning back in the driver seat.
