This is a 1987 Jeep Comanche SporTruck. It is equipped with the AMC 4.0L Engine, Peugeot BA 10/5 5 Speed Manual Transmission, NP231 Transfer Case, Dana 35 Rear Axle and Dana 30 Front Axle. It is the Long Wheelbase configuration with a 7 foot bed. I bought it with 115,000 miles, and in this video series, I plan to restore this truck to the best of my ability.
In this video:
-The fuel pump situation
-Upgraded gauge cluster
-New headliner
-Weatherstipping on exterior windows
-Sanded and reformed rust on seat brackets (off camera)
-Repainted trim pieces and center console (off camera)
-Relocated fuel pump ground (off camera)
-Replaced flasher relay (off camera)
I lost alot of footage for this one. I took the truck to my local auto body shop to have new floors welded in but they denied me service after deeming the vehicle "beyond saving". He said it would be easier to find one with no rust and swap in the drivetrain, but little did he know, these trucks are literally more rare than Ferrari's. I was moderately disappointed to hear this news and it's taken away a large amount of motivation to continue the project. The floors are definitely repairable, this guy just didn't want to do it.
Because of the apocalypse, I've been permanently laid off from my former place of employment and I haven't had an income since April. My dumbass decided it would be an excellent idea to buy this truck, and now I don't really have any money. At the end of the day, I don't need it, I just think it's the most badass truck to ever exist. I'll sell it for $4,000, but nobody ever reads video descriptions anyway so I'm probably gonna end up holding onto it through winter and park my XJ in a storage unit to prevent it from rusting any further.
For the next episode, I plan on replacing the thermostat and various other cooling system components because the temperature gauge never reads above 1/4 up leading me to believe either the thermostat or sending unit is bad.
