It is, but it’s changed a lot. It’s become the new Florida. Full time residents have surged out of control and we still have huge tourism on top of that. Combined with not much usable land available (have to deduct national park, cherokee reservation land, state land, dams and lake, etc) irs very congested and unaffordable prices. Even if housing leveled out, it won’t here (supply and demand). Fields are now subdivisions and RV parks. Im franklin/sylva/Cherokee area. So many new stores. Healthcare is TERRIBLE. 5 months for me to get a Sr Appt with my GP. High turnover here for doctors. So many people move here and don’t research medical care. They think of Duke etc. well. We are other side of the state. Anyway. It’s fine for vacationing , but you wouldn’t want to live here. Im going to be selling and finding a less expensive and non tourist area to move to. I’ll miss the mountains themselves, but not the rest of it.

Love that rest area as you come into N Carolina, so pretty and I would love to live in Maggie Valley, beautiful place and of course the mountains are amazingly beautiful...Waynesville is a cute town, we have been there several times..your food looks amazing, we will need to try that place next time we go there...always a must to go to the General store...
